Just received the following from that ASA
TESCO LTD / VODAFONE
Thank you for your recent complaint.
We contacted Vodafone about this matter and they confirmed that the ad was a Tesco ad and that the reference to “unlimited internet” was the result of a genuine error. Vodafone confirmed that their internet usage is limited to 500mb.
The advertisers have now provided us with an assurance that they have taken steps to ensure that a similar problem does not arise again and, on that basis, we will now close our file.
Now we’ve resolved your complaint, basic information including the advertisers’ name and where the ad appeared will be published on our website, www.asa.org.uk.
Thank you for taking the time and trouble to write to us. If you’d like some more information about what we do and the action we’ve taken against advertisers who break the code, please have a look on our website.
Yours sincerely
Seems they like lieing to that ASA as well.TESCO EVERY LITTLE change to the t&cs HELPS0 -
I have just received a response from the ASA regarding a complaint made regarding an 'unlimited' advert relating to mobile internet from Vodafone. This was the response:TESCO LTD / VODAFONE

They say that Vodafone have stated that 'their internet usage is limited to 500mb' -- completely different to what we are being told!

Mistake? LOL that's a bit of a joke.
For me the unlimited thing isn't relevant. I was always aware that it wasn't really unlimited and that there was a 500mb soft limit and a fair use policy. It's that when asked about what exactly this meant the answers were a bit foggy, but made it absolutely clear that it was there to protect Vodafone from having to provide excessive use customers with a free service including P2P downloading, Tethering, and several gigabytes a month of use for the inclusive price.
I am surprised that the ASA respond like that. I've heard in person sales staff answering the question "so it comes with unlimited internet? Facebook and email and that?" with an unequivocal yes.
Same as i have known people on Broadband suddenly surprised that they are warned or charged by their landline broadband ISP because they watched a few hours of iPlayer each week - not realising that a few hours browsing probably only uses 5% of the bandwidth. Given the target market and their knowledge on these things - not making it pretty clear that there are limits is just not acceptable.0 -
I received the exact same response from ASA as well. In my opinion ASA are more corrupt than Vodafone! They are supposed to be looking after the consumers but are completely ignorant to what is going on all the time!!I have just received a response from the ASA regarding a complaint made regarding an 'unlimited' advert relating to mobile internet from Vodafone. According to posts on the eforum it looks like Vodafone are blocking streaming sites...

Well I can access TVCatchup ("normal" site) fine over 3G using the Skyfire browser (I tried yesterday just to see if I could or not) however I can't stream using the m.tvcatchup address but I think it's possibly a problem with the mobile version of tv catchup and how it identifies the phone because I saw "iPhone" in the path that was shown while trying to load the stream - my HD2 runs WinMo, so definitely not an iSheep deviceNow free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Yes, I received a similar reply from ASA as well. Bascially means that ASA does not have problem with VF, as long as they dont advertise the contract as unlimited.SAY NO TO INJUSTICE !

Front page story on this weeks New Media Age (a media industry mag) is that the ASA (who only have the power to adjudicate not regulate) are launching an investigation into unlimited claims, along with two bodies that do have the power to regulate and enforce.
So actually something is being done, the same article suggests that may be why O2 have suddenly dropped unlimited data.
Interestingly the article says Vodafone havn't offered internet as unlimited since last December, and quotes a Vodafone source saying:
'last december we got rid of the 'unlimited' line from all our internet packages whether on phone or dongle. It's confusing for customers to get sold an unlimited package and then be told there's a FUP'
Simply unbelievable!!!!!!!!! A total pack of lies. And this is the front page story on a major industry magazine.0 -
