I have used 683MB of my "Unlimited" 500MB FUP allowance for this month. This is the first month of my contract.

Have Used 524 Minutes of my 600 Mins talk time and 621 SMS Messages

    New allowance starts 7 June
your nexus one should have come with a 1gb internet even from voadfone. the deisre comes with a 500mb intenet from vodafone.

That is true of most Nexus owners but my N1 was a faulty Desire replacement. It is basically a Nexus One sitting on the original Desire tarriff and has the 500MB FUP.

Anyway the N1 Tarriff with 1GB is £5 per month more than the Desire 500MB FUP tarriff so i don't want to change to it.

Today I thought I would give Vodafone another chance. So I called retentions and asked if they could do a reasonable deal on the HTC Desire, 18 month contract, 1Gb data, with 600mins unlimited texts. The best they could do was 45 pound per month for an 18 month contract and 40 pound per month on a 24th month contract! Are they even trying?
I can get the same phone free on an identical tariff on the other networks for £25-£30 per month. Vodafone themselves have offered the phone on a £15 a month contract via twitter. (I can't post the link)

As you can understand I'm not all that impressed with their offer.

I am paying £30 a month for an N1 with 600 mins, Unlimited Texts and the 500MB FUP Internet. 18 Months.

Granted, I was jammy as the N1 was a replacement for a faulty Desire handset. But even £30 a month for the Desire is good.

I thought I would jump on the bandwaggon with this.

So. My current usage is 147MB and is due to reset on 7 June 2010.

If I start fleecing it by using Tethering will they know? Tethering will soon suck up my 500MB allowance

Nexus One User Here (pleased to help out) - Not an HTC Desire owner!

BUT I am actually on a 500MB limit as my faulty Dnesire was replaced by a N1 and the contract remained the same.

if you use wifi for downloading apps for wifi / bluetooth tehering and then use the apps for wireless tethering like anyother wifi or bluetooth device (like satnav) then how can they know what consumed the data. The htc desire natively allows wireless tethering but for the nexus 1 you need the froyo update to be able to do this or you can download apps from cnet to do this even without the froyo update for any android handset.

see the following cnet apps for wireless tethering which do not need rooting android and other phones
http://download.cnet.com/PdaNet-for-Android-32-bit-Windows-Installer/3000-2155_4-75059341.html for wireless and bluetooth tethering

    http://download.cnet.com/Android-Wifi-Tether/3000-2085_4-75000337.html?!!!!!bc

    some other tethering (wireless) apps
    http://www.brothersoft.com/mobile/medieval-bluetooth-file-transfer-4533.html for bluetooth

    http://www.androidfreeware.org/download/bluetooth-file-transfer-1.70 bluetooth

i had a few other links but the links dont seem to work now for reasons beyond me. the other links were working just last month when i saved the links on a 11 page android apps links document i made after sifting through loads of apps online on many websites

    From Bitterwallet:

Vodafone have nothing left to say on new data charges
    By PAUL SMITH
Well now you know what you’re dealing with. A couple of weeks ago we sent an open letter to Jakub Hrabovsky, Head of Web Relations at Vodafone, after he claimed our coverage of the company’s “consistent” message concerning new data charges had been unfair. The open letter walked through the many instances of Vodafone contradicting itself, making confusing statements and explained why Vodafone’s behaviour appeared anything but consistent.

Hrabovsky never replied, not officially at least, but yesterday saw fit to comment on his personal Twitter account:

    Picture-4-500x216.png

Actually, there’s plenty more to say, especially when many of the questions have been answered incorrectly or dodged altogether. We’ve already published pages of comment and statements on the matter (you can read a summary here), but throw in the fact that some customers are already claiming to have being charged for additional data usage after just one month, it’s difficult to see how Vodafone can claim their actions have been anything other than a fat mess.

Here’s what we’re going to do next: tomorrow we’ll publish a short and concise post about Vodafone’s behaviour over the past month. We’ll explain why they haven’t treated their customers very fairly. Then we’ll turn to Twitter; Vodafone use Twitter extensively for customer service, reaching out to customers who have issues or queries, and to those Twitter users who are interested in changing service providers.

On Twitter, Bitterwallet can have as much profile to individual users, as Vodafone. So from tomorrow morning, every person who contacts Vodafone via Twitter will be sent a link to the article; every user that Vodafone reaches out to of their own accord will be sent a link to the article. If you’re on Twitter, we’d encourage you to do the same. We don’t hope to achieve anything than mild irritation – we’re exceptional at that, at the very least – and make the point that Vodafone handled this issue, and their customers, very poorly.

On the vodafone forums, the moderator said they were not officially notifying people as only 2 or 3% ever go near the 500mb limit, so most people will never need to know about the changes

    16) Can I contact you to cancel my account?

No, because there have been no changes as of now. You may be able to terminate after we notify you of the changes and you can establish a 10 percent increase on the previous bill based on the same usage.

and then again at the end:
No changes have been made and nobody has been charged yet, so it's not currently possible to request cancellation of your account. With this in mind, there’s no need to write, call or email us to request to cancel. If you’re part of that tiny percentage who does use 500MB or more per month, we’ll notify you as per the message above, but you won’t receive any charges yet.

I myself have been verbally promised by Tom_Vodafone that i will be able to cancel the minute i receive notice that i am to be charged.
