;32456277]Yes. Because hes getting paid to attempt to deliver the post. What if the person has a day off work? This is what happened in my case.

    Lazy...
Completely agree with you, the majority of the time you know when your parcel\package is due for delivery, and subsequently take the day off work (you cant risk half a day as you dont know if it is AM\PM delivery) I used to take the time off when I knew a particularly large parcel was due via Royal Mail. And yes (although only at my previous address) I would catch the postie with the "sorry you were out" card at the ready, how he would fluster as I opened the door as he knew he would have to hand this to me and look pretty foolish.

I would be fuming, a service has been paid for that expects a package to be delivered to its destination (certainly not some depot near the destination). It is generally accepted that someone expecting a delivery will take the time to make sure they are in for the expected delivery date.

A postman (as mentioned previously) claiming he knew the occupier would be out anyway is an outrageous excuse. It boils down to "I cant be bothered taking that". Whether they have busier schedules, short staffed, inundated with packages is not the recipients fault or indeed problem, this is something the Depot would need to solve.

However I have to say since moving I have NEVER experienced that problem since, so not all depots are this sloppy, the sloppiness is either staff or management related.

a lot of RM management run on the "i dont really care what happens as long as i dont get grief/have to do anything about it"
even when staff raise issues, the usual reply i 'I'll get back to you"
    thats the last you hear

Do the math [as our US cousins say]..

100 parcels, save 30 secs on each delivery [by putting card thru rather than waiting and getting signature], equals finishing your 'round' 50 mins early [put feet up in van for a kip or go home if you're on 'job and finish'.]

No wonder it gets done so much.

I find our postie(s) dreadful - I've had six eBay items delivered by Recorded mail in the last few months (seller's choice), and have not signed for one of them - the postie just pushes them through the door. Admittedly I get my things without having to go to the depot, but I've returned four of the six padded envelopes to the sellers, with the barcode thingy intact so they can claim a refund from RM. So unfair to charge for a service then not supply it.

I'm also interested to see that postmen no longer need to be able to count/read addresses; in the last few weeks, I've put eighteen items of post through the letterbox next door. This isn't just a case of getting it wrong by one house number - we're in the block marked "9-16", but apparently this encompasses any number up to 24. It's nice that care in the community is working so well, and all, but I never fancied a second job as a postie...

The posting through wrong doors thing hit our street with a vengeance last year - most nights resembled some kind of postal episode of Blind Date as we all ran up and down the street trying to match errant letters with the correct house number. Thankfully our mob are all pretty friendly so it wasn't a problem - but still, something someone's been paid to do and has half-arsed.

I thought the point of paying for that service was that the poster has 'proof' that the parcel arrives in the hands of the recipient? Not that the postie can just scan the barcode and say 'yup, I chucked it in the letterbox'. Am I missing something? I don't really think it should be necessary to have things delivered at extra cost because RM are lazy/parcels never arrive, but if you do pay for a service, why don't you get it?
