last week i came home from work to find a recorded delivery parcel attached to my door handle with an elastic band..... i live on a main road and we frequently have salesmen(& women) up & down, i was quite shocked and angry so i looked up the reference on the royal mail website out of interest to see 'where' my parcel was..... the postman had signed my surname and wrote lines in the box, he hadnt forged my signiture but my name........ My instincts were to call and complain, as i've been ordering wedding & christening gifts lately it could easily been removed and i was a little shaken that he'd do this. He was obviously trying to save me the hastle and do me a favour but it would have caused me more trouble if the parcel had gone walkies......... should i have a word with him or report it outright?0

Me too! I don't leave my door open even for 1 minute. I go in and lock it straight behind me.Approach her; adore her. Behold her; worship her. Caress her; indulge her. Kiss her; pleasure her. Kneel to her; lavish her. Assert to her; let her guide you. Obey her as you know how; Surrender is so wonderful! For Caroline my Goddess.0

Whoa. Thats bad.
Never lock the front door until we go to bed at night. Loads of times gone out and forgot to lock the door. Loads of times left back door unlocked at night.
My wife even went out once and left the front door wide open. Never had a problem.
You need to move to Wales !!!0 -
I think locking the door straight away is due to a perceived rather than actual threat...0

Someone could concievably nip in, hid in the downstairs loo, and then have the run of the house when you left, I suppose.0 -
Here's a thought. What if your postie knows that you aren't normally in through the day? My hubby's a postie and knows the hours kept by the vast majority of the houses on his walk. He knows who's normally at work and who is home through the day. If a parcel comes in for someone he knows is going to be out, he'll red card it. Is it wrong for him to do this? Why should he lug a heavy parcel around his route only to have to take it back to the sorting office? He's not being lazy, just sensible.0

Im a courier and to be honest I would rather deliver the parcel than card it. If I put a card in saying I will be back the following day then I only get paid once for actually delivering it. Makes much more sense for me to leave it in a secure place (like a shed or garage) than to card it and have to go back.0

yes,its willful delay and what if the person is on holiday.took the day off,got someone to wait in?
the job is delivery, not decide what someone should or shouldnt get
yes its a pain going ot the same place and they are never in,however thats the job0 -
I've had a postie just put the card through without knocking before. I was sat in the living room and saw him come to the door and put it through! Went to chase him but he'd gone by the time I got into the street.
What annoyed me even more once with a different postie was we got the red card through (we really were not in that time), and went to the sorting office to pick it up after we'd waited the right amount of time it said on the card. Only for the office to inform us that we would have to come back and get our letter tomorrow, as because that postie lived in a town in a different direction to the sorting office he would just take the undelivered items home with him and leave them in his van overnight instead of taking them back! :mad:0
