So you got double time for all overtime (sometimes more). Finished early everyday. Or held the management to ransom for extra days off!
And then we had the complaints about the poor hard done by overworked postie. No wonder they had to change that.
you misread my post
i never said all got overtime
i said when people did overtime
there was no ransom,if staff didnt want to do overtime then the management would up their offers
the reason they did this is under the USO they have to deliver any mail that is left undelivered by having no staff
I never said it shouldnt have changed
also bear in mind at that time(and for many still doing it) people went into work early and never took their breaks as they could finish early
so finishing 1 hour early would include all their breaks for the day
under job n finish i never took a break0 -
I would not like to be a postie.
I say pay the public services alot more than they recieve and put the price of a stamp up to cover their costs.
Public services should be a little relaxed and laid back to be honest. You are either a capitalist with the potential to earn megabucks or civil servant who will not earn megabucks.
If you whinge about the civil staff / posties than you are a failed capitalist.0 -

We have 2 separate posties for regular post and parcels. The regular post comes between 9am - 1pm, and the postman who drives with the parcels generally comes between 10am-11am.
Both are really nice, we also have great neighbours and the posties will always give stuff to the other if not in.0 -

No point.
Just pay em more. Not enough that they can drive around in Porches and Bentleys but just more.
After all the bankers made silly money and they caused alot of the problems around the financial world which effects YOU directly.
Postie didnt. Its black and white really. Postie = pay more.0 -

I actually disagree.I think the wages in RM are fair
no arguments there
however Its the workload or more the interpretation of what is a realistic workload in the alloted time thats an issue
its a low skilled job but its a job that does take skill IYKWIM
theres little to no scope for advancement,so its suits a certain type of person but if they do the job well its good for them and for the customers (both sender and recipient)0 -

Are you mental??....[with apologies to anyone with learning difficulties or mental health challenges]Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why then you're as thick and stupid as the moderators on here - MSE ForumTeam0 -
We have got the laziest postman and it really annoys me....he once posted all of the post for our close at number 1, then the owners had to go round and deliver it all, he chucks parcels in the bush outside our house and doesn't leave a note...the last one we found in there was a parcel we had been waiting for for 4 months...eventually, whilst doing the gardening, we found it, all decomposing! He signs for post on our behalf, without our consent. On the odd occassion that he bothers to knock the door, he is stood there with a cigarette hanging out his mouth, puffing smoke in my face....complete waste of space.0

Oh dear. No need to reflect your familial relationships on an open forum..

This thread is quite entertaining so thought I'd put my experience in the mix:-
Old place (over 2 years ago), I used to work from home. Would watch the red van drive along the footpath between 2 of the streets so they wouldn't have to drive around. Van would stop, postie would get out and walk to the outside door of the flat with the missed delivery slip in hand.
New place, I still work from home. Post can arrive anywhere between 10am and 5pm (once it arrived just before 7pm). I've had parcels:-
- left under the car parked out front with no note through the door (now imagine if I'd driven away somewhere?!)
- chucked over the side gate with no note through the door (they lay there for 3 days!)
- left next door, again with no note through the door (I have nice neighbours though).
As for couriers, I am ready to give up!
Came home 1 day (I'd been out on site) to find a missed delivery. Rang them up to arrange to go an collect it the next day as I was going to be out on site again. Went up to collect it and they brought out this huge parcel which wasn't mine but was for my neighbour 4 doors away. As soon as I said it wasn't mine they said the driver must have put the note through the wrong door!
Recently, ordered something online and it was going to be delivered by Home Delivery Network. I paid for next day delivery as I needed it for work the next day. Tracked the parcel overnight online and it was at the local depot in the morning then out for delivery. Got to 2pm and online tracking said it was back in the depot. Phoned them only to be told that the driver couldn't get access to my property to deliver it. I politely told them that of course he couldn't get access to my property - I have a front door to stop that! They then came back with the excuse that he'd gone to another street nearby with the same street name (it's a few miles away in a different town!).
Mother in law ordered something for my daughter and sent the order confirmation through saying it would be delivered on x day. I was out the back but wife was upstairs getting ready. She came down and told me that the delivery van pulled up outside, the guy jumped out and rang the doorbell then walked straight back to the van and drove off! No missed delivery note at all. Rang the courier company and they said that if their driver knocked with no answer they would leave a card. I politely told them the driver knocked but didn't give time for an answer and didn't leave any card. Was told that was not possible! Different driver turned up the next day with parcel.0
