I would like to nominate North East Doncaster Citizens Advice Bureau
based in the north of Doncaster (would you believe).
We have no website as we don't have anyone technically savvy enough to produce one and can't afford to pay someone to produce one.
A small CAB in a deprived former mining community. (sorry 9 words)
The Bureau helps clients with a variety of issues, however as it has offices in deprived areas it has 2 full time debt caseworkers and 2 welfare rights caseworkers.
The caseworkers assist clients with financial difficulties both in respect of helping them access benefits and helping them to manage their current financial circumstances and deal with financial diffiulties.
These posts are all funded by external funding streams and it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain funding to continue the service.
Notwithstanding the need for these caseworkers, there is a huge need for financial literacy and financial education and currently there is no funding available to tackle this problem.0 -
Hi I would like to nominate Open Secret, they are a registered Scottish Charity that works with people who have been sexually abused in childhood.
Open Secret works with people from a variety of backgrounds as sexual abuse can affect anyone. They do work with people who have felt excluded from society, they have carried around secrets for years (hence the name). A section of Open Secrets service users are from socially excluded backgrounds, this may or may not be a direct result of abuse. They work with people who have financial problems, homelessness, issues around self esteem, anxiety, self harm and suicide.0 -
I would like to nominate Thw Swindon Downs Syndrome group (reg 1096089) we offer support to parents and carers, advice and information, speech therapy, annual training days, tennis football and swimming for the children with Downs Syndrome. We aim to enhance the lives of people with Downs Syndrome, their families and carers. We are a parent led group all giving our time for love and reward we see from the children. We currently do not have a website as we have not had enough funding to do this. I hope this does not put people off as we here to help and can be contacted through head office.

The Prostate Cancer Charity
https://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk
Raising awareness and telephone support for sufferers and their families.
My Father was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer over Christmas 2001 and the bottom fell out of our world. My strong, butch Father was dying of something we had never really heard of it. It was kind of embarrassing too, what was this prostate and why was it being attacked by cancer? I trawled the Internet and found this one site with some of the answers. I called, full or tears, and the nurses I spoke to answered all my questions and helped me understand. My Father has gone through lots of the treatments described by the nurses and the absolutely fantastic news is that he is still alive (and kicking!). However, I never realised how many men get this deadly disease. The charity is not only there for sufferers and their families it is there to raise awareness so that men can get an early diagnose. With early diagnose comes a hugely improved life expectancy.0 -
I'd like to nominate Shelter (National Campaign for Homeless People), a UK charity campaigning to improve the living conditions for some of our poorest children. Website is at http://england.shelter.org.uk.
Every day, in Britain, more than one million children wake up in squalid, temporary or crowded accomodation. Bad housing makes our children ill, with one in twelve children contracting diseases such as TB and Bronchitis, as a result of poor housing. This impacts on their education: homeless children, on average, miss out on a quarter of their schooling. As well as making daily life miserable, poor housing robs children of their future.
This site helps people save money, which many spend on buying more and enjoying a better life. For children, this is not an option. They are completely at the mercy of their parents and of us, the society around them. Hence, we are responsible for helping them secure a better standard of living, and of investing in their future. Every year, Shelter helps 170,000 people who are homeless, or live in unacceptable conditions. Let them help more.
Thanks,

Hi I would like to nominate RSD UK
This is a small charity that supports people with RSD / CRPS. This is a little known condition that essentially leaves people in chronic pain. This condition isn't very well known in the medical world and some sufferers spend years trying to get a diagnosis. I myself have had to explain to 3 GPs and numerous other medical professionals what it is.
This charity works in two ways
1. it informs suffers, Doctors and family what this condition is through its web site https://www.rsd-crps.co.uk
2. it supports those that have it and their carers through a forum on http://www.rsd-crps.co.uk/phpBB2/
Many of the suffers can't work and have to fight for DLA and Mobility often through appeals.
I want to nominate the group to thank them for helping me and so many others on a daily basis and for bringing suffers together, it would be rare for us to meet another sufferer in the course of our lives otherwise.
Another reason is just last night one person posted about how they couldn't cope any more and was sinking further and further into debt - emailed him and recomended your site - i hope he found it.:A0 -
Hi everyone
Thanks for the nominations so far. Could you please remember to put the website link if there is one? It'll make the volunteers' jobs a lot easier.
ThanksCould you do with a Money Makeover?

I would like to nominate 2 charities
https://www.asthma.org.uk
This is a selfish one because my daughter has suffered badly with asthma for over 9 years and it still isnt under control. It is also rife amongst my family (brother, sister, mum, aunts, uncles etc).
My second nomination is for the Cornwall Air Ambulance
https://www.helimed181.co.uk
This is an essential charity. The hospitals are so far away in Cornwall it is vital for the air ambulance to be in service. I support the cornwall air ambulance as much as I can.0 -
Until a person becomes a carer, no-one realises how important it is to have a break, even just a couple of hours. Crossroads is brilliant. They work hard raising the funds they need to train and provide Carer Support Workers to look after children and adults suffering from disability or illness, while providing short breaks for Carers free of charge. Brecknock & Radnor Crossroads is my nominee.0

International Myeloma Foundation.
http://www.myeloma.org.uk
Supports and helps patients and carers who are dealing with Myeloma which has no cure. There is a current fight with NICE to obtain a possible life saving drug.
I feel that the Internationa Myeloma Foundation deserves the funding as Myeloma is not well known but needs the same funding as any other cancer to enable research to continue to find a cure.
Regards
