I'd like to nominate Practical Action (formerly known as ITDG).
Website: https://www.practicalaction.org
Providing long-term support to improve poor peoples lives.
This is a great little known charity, perfect for funding from MoneySavingExpert, as it was founded by radical economist EF Schumacher, author of best seller, 'Small is Beautiful'.
Practical Action works throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America, together with poor women, men and children helping them lift themselves out of poverty by using simple, innovative technologies.
Some great ideas include smoke hoods in Kenya (which I bought as an alternative gift for my Dad last fathers day), which keeps deadly smoke out homes, saving the lives and health of women and children; developing and providing soft donkey harnesses and ploughs for poor farmers in Sudan so they can plough their land to grow food; developing special flood proof houses for poor families living in flood prone in Bangladesh.
I love this charity for it's unique and innovative approach to helping poor people improve their lives and would love to see Practial Action receive more support.0 -
1) Macmillan Cancer Support
2) https://www.macmillan.org.uk
3) Helps look after Cancer sufferers
4) This charity does great work but is often overlooked in favour of Cancer Research UK and the like. Memebers of my own family have benifited from the expertise and humanity in their approach0 -
I would like to nominate
Thomas Barnardo House Registered Charity Number SC020037
An orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya with 165 children.
https://www.thomasbarnardoshouse.org
I am a fundraiser for this orphanage in Nairobi. It used to be run by Barnardo's (hence the name) but has been run privately for the past 11 years. We currently have 165 children in our care, aged from a few days up to 21 years. The local maternity hospital regularly contacts us about abandoned babies - our nursery has 30 infants under the age of one. We provide clothing, shelter, food, medical treatment and education in a comfortable family environment. We are also working in rural Kenya in partnership with the Maasai community, helping where we can to alleviate the problems caused by the drought. We raise funds in the UK through a child sponsorship scheme and in the selling of Kenyan jewellery and crafts.kazsaz

I would like to nominate the RSPCA
Registered Charity Number 219099
Prevents animal cruelty and pursues animal cruelty cases
Website: https://www.rspca.org.uk
I'd like to nominate an animal charity - they don't seem to get many major donations, they always seem to be for childrens charities. It's tough, 'cause there are several I can think of; PDSA, WSPA etc. but have decided on the RSPCA.
We seem to have heard of a glut of animal cruelty cases lately, and love nothing more than to hear that the evil culprits have been brought to justice - although I think a dose of their own medicine would be better but that's another subject.
The RSPCA play a major part in bringing these people to the courts and giving animals who've been on the receiving end of some miserable treatment, a happy life.
Animal charities vary rarely seem to get voted for, so please vote for this one.
Thank you

I would like to nominate The Jessie May Trust (registered charity number 1086048) https://www.jessiemaytrust.org.uk - hospice at home for terminally ill children.
This charity should be supported because it relies totally on voluntary contributions to fund its vital service of nursing care & respite for children who won't live beyond the age of 19. Most of us can't even begin to imagine what it must be like to find out that your child is not going to live into adulthood. Without support from charities like The Jessie May Trust, many would be housebound - Parents often have to give up work in order to care for their child 24 hours a day and financial difficulties are common. The service gives parents the opportunity to do every day things that many of us take for granted like popping to the shops for a pint of milk. As a small organisation, support from MoneySavingExpert would make a very real difference to the lives of the children and families they support.
Thanks very much0 -
The Centre for Alternative Technology. It has done so much to promote technologies like solar and wind power, and is at the forefront of the movement for environmentally sound building.
We are already feeling the effects of global warming and climate change, and our children and grandchildren could face real hardship because of them. What could be more important today than tackling the environmental issues we are facing?

I would like to nominate a charity called Autism Initiatives, web: https://www.autisminitiatives.org - they provide residential, daycare and education for children and young adults with autism. Autism is now estimated to affect 1 in 86 people to some degree but is often overlooked in the world of disability. This might be because physically you can't always tell if a person is autistic just by looking at them but they have more to cope with than people realise (think Rainman as a general idea).
How does it fit in with the concept of MSE? An autistic person might be able to tell you the exact date they were ill with a cold 20 years ago but not be able to work out how much change they would need in a shop. They need to be taught social/life skills that many of us take for granted and this includes being able to look after themselves financially as they get older.
Why have I nominated Autism Initiatives? Because I have a son who is autistic and I also work with children on the autistic spectrum. My son recently, rather precociously, asked his grandparents for a £50 note for his holiday money (because he likes the colour of the note, he doesn't realise it's value or that it is cheeky to ask for that value!) As a treat, they allowed him the amount because they knew how much it would mean to him to have his wish granted. But.....and here's why autistic people need help....when they presented the note to him, he gave it back to them...why? ...because it was ripped and therefore didn't fit into his world of perfectionism! You can see how he will be vulnerable as he gets older can't you? We laughed and laughed but it was also tinged with sadness.
I would like an Autism charity to be considered but I also don't mind any other charity dealing with mental illness, as I think either would help raise awareness of the struggles associated with such conditions.
Thanks for listening.

Although it is probably most appropriate that the money goes to a charity that supports those in debt I would like to nominate Childline.
Childline http://www.childline.org.uk/ offers a free 24 hour helpline for children to discuss any problem, particularly physical abuse or bullying.Punky x0 -
I'd nominate the Child Poverty Action Group, beacuse it does exactly what it says on the tin.
http://www.cpag.org.uk/
The charity lobbies and campaigns for a better deal for children caught in the poverty trap as well as helping poor families through the complexities of the tax and benefit system. I cannot think of a better partner-charity for MSE.

I would like to nominate Cancer Research. Not only did my mum die of breast cancer when I was 4 but one of my friends is diagnosed with it also.
It effects everyone!
