  • I would like to nominate the refugee council which helps refugees and asylum seekers. I would like to think users of this website are intelligent and know not to believe all the rubbish that certain tabloids print. Imagine what it is like to arrive traumatised and leave all your family behind and to meet terrible hostility instead of humane treatment.

I would like to nominate the British Red Cross for all the work they do in both the UK and abroad. I think a lot of the work they do in the UK goes unknown, from helping people when they come home from hospital, to loaning wheelchairs out (for no charge), therapeutic care, message and tracing services and first aid.

My vote would go to Help the Aged, http://www.helptheaged.org.uk/en-gb

It does lots of good work for elderly people on their own with no support
  • Personal Assistance Dogs
    http://www.personal-assistance-dogs.org.uk/

PAD trains emergency response dogs to provide medical and physical assistance to disabled people.

I would like to nominate Personal Assistance Dogs as they are a very small charity struggling to raise more money to train dogs to save lives. Tyke came into my life 8 months ago and 4 days later saved my life by pressing a button to call the emergency services. They also use rescued dogs so 2 lives in each case have been saved. A good charity all round. :T

  • i nominate AQUABOX charity
    https://www.aquabox.org
a simple scheme to provide clean water in areas where natural disasters have decimated the local clean water supply.
£50 saves at least 4 lives by providing a clean water supply.
the project also provides a valuable community activity for the filling group eg a class of school children
why is there only one monopolies commission?
  • I would like to nominate Christians Against Poverty for this award.
https://www.cap.org is the website - take a look and see what this non profit organisation has done to help those in debt throughout the country. Each new centre opened means that many more can be helped out of debt and into a new life where they have control of their finance once again
  • I would like to nominate St Columbas Hospice, Edinburgh

    http://www.stcolumbashospice.org.uk/

I witnessed first hand the caring attitudes of the staff at this hospice. Most of us have lost family and friends to cancer and this place offers compassion, dignity and comfort to not only the patients but the families who are also struggling.
The Chaplaincy team offers spiritual care to everyone and makes sure religious care is available whatever their faith or background may be.

i would like to nominate RSD UK, following a motorcyle accident four and a half years ago i developed RSD, this affliction has left me in persistant chronic pain, it's not just me that suffers, it affects my husbands life, he has to deal with the highs and the exteme lows, he has had to carry me upstairs, RSD UK provides help, advice and support to both suffers and carers.
As little is generally known about RSD it, like other small charities, gets overlooked in favour of more well known causes, so i'd like to thank you for allowing nominations forward, and hopefully the small fries might get a helping hand
  • I would like to nominate the CF Trust. Mainly because it is such a silly illness that affects so many people that is so close to being cured, it ought to be wiped off the face of the earth!

My lovely little boy was born with this life-threatening ilness and I hope that we can help all the wonderfully clever scientists to cure it. Also, once they figure it out, the same principles can be used for many other nasties such as cancer. Please vote for this!

Not much to do with Money Saving, I know!

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is the UK's only national charity dedicated to all aspects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). It funds research to treat and cure CF and aims to ensure appropriate clinical care and support for people with Cystic Fibrosis.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust funds medical and scientific research aimed towards understanding, treating and curing Cystic Fibrosis. It also aims to ensure that people with CF receive the best possible care and support in all aspects of their lives. To do this we have set ourselves a fundraising target of £8 million per year.

In addition to this, the CF Trust is committed to raising a further £15 million over five years to fund pioneering research into gene therapy with the aim of correcting the basic genetic defect.
