  • SOSIRBKITAID

    Website https://www.sosirbkitaid.org

A Charity involved in the collection and distribution of unwanted, outgrown and used rugby kit and accessories.

This charity doesn't seek money but donations of rugby clothes, boots, balls tackle bags etc. All items received are distributed to less well off children aged between 7 & 18 throughout the UK and developing countries.
We have already distributed over 10,000 rugby shirts in the last 4 years.
If you would like to use some of your money to purchase a few rugby balls or buy some kit then I can assure you that you will make some children very happy in some other part of the world.
  • I would like to nominate the Princess Royal Trust for Carers. https://www.carers.org and https://www.youngcarers.org.

1 in 10 of the population are Carers, many of them young children caring for parents etc. Carers save the Government £57 Billion a year and they are repaid with £46 a week allowance. They support through a network of local centres which offer advice, respite andpractical support.

The tips and help on this site can make a huge difference.. as will the support to The Trust.
  • I would like to nominate Help The Aged because, if we're lucky, it is a charity that could apply to us all! I personally am getting there faster than I ever expected and am starting to be aware of all the issues that crop up like bills basically being index-linked when income isn't and being able to read the small print on anything at all without a quick shufty in one's handbag.
  • I was desperately ill and could have died from this condition which is very rare and so I'd like to nominate The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (UK) which supports people who live with/work with PH. It's a rare lung disorder in which the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery rises far above normal levels. Patients are often in a bad way by the time they get their diagnosis, or can die before the condition is diagnosed. PHA(UK) aims to provide support, understanding, and information for all those people whose lives are touched by PH. By investing in training and awareness-raising campaigns and bringing people together, and providing a focus the Association aims to make the lives of patients, relatives and carers easier and more able to cope with the challenges that PH imposes.

  • I would like to nominate Eaves Housing for Women (charity no. 275048)

    Website: https://www.eaves4women.co.uk

Eaves provides support and accommodation services to vulnerable women.

Eaves ethos is to promote and support the needs of vulnerable, excluded and exploited women through a wide range of services. Eaves' projects and services include:

    * Supported Housing - for homeless women with additional support needs including women with mental or physical health or substance dependence issues, women leaving prison and those with experience of childhood or adult sexual or physical violence.

    * The Poppy Project - support services for women trafficked to towns and cities across the UK and forced into prostitution.

    * The Lilith Project - research, campaigning and support work around all issues of violence against women.

    * Domestic Violence refuge provision and outreach services across London for women and children affected by violence in the home.

Eaves is consistently under funded. There are many areas of work that are in desperate need of funds and Eaves would really benefit from this support. Thank you!
  • I would like to nominate West Glamorgan Forum - website address is https://www.westglamorganforum.org.uk

We provide advice, advocacy and support to adults with learning disabilities.

We should get some of the funds because we are the only independent advocay service for adults with learning disabilities and their families living in the counties of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, Wales.

We support over 200 people each year to secure their rights and speak up for themselves. Some of this involves ensuring people who use our service get benefits and entitlements, have support to secure the services they need and want and learn how to speak up for themselves.

We are cash poor but big on getting results and always need money.
  • I agree with Roland's post, so I would also like to nominate Shelter:

I'd like to nominate Shelter (National Campaign for Homeless People), a UK charity campaigning to improve the living conditions for some of our poorest children. Website is at http://england.shelter.org.uk.

Every day, in Britain, more than one million children wake up in squalid, temporary or crowded accomodation. Bad housing makes our children ill, with one in twelve children contracting diseases such as TB and Bronchitis, as a result of poor housing. This impacts on their education: homeless children, on average, miss out on a quarter of their schooling. As well as making daily life miserable, poor housing robs children of their future.

This site helps people save money, which many spend on buying more and enjoying a better life. For children, this is not an option. They are completely at the mercy of their parents and of us, the society around them. Hence, we are responsible for helping them secure a better standard of living, and of investing in their future. Every year, Shelter helps 170,000 people who are homeless, or live in unacceptable conditions. Let them help more.
  • I would like to nominate the Dogs for Disabled charity. They supply specially trained dogs for disabled people which help them with daily tasks. They also supply dogs for children as well. When you see the difference the dogs make to the disabled people, you can sometimes call it a miracle. They are very similar to guide dogs for the blind.

I would like to nominate Financial Inclusion Somerset.

It's a small organisation which works in two ways:

    1) It helps people in financial trouble by representing them in dealings with local authorities, courts, creditors and other sources of help. They've saved several people from being evicted or having their homes reposessed but will help with any kind of financial problem you can think of. They empower people in their dealings with 'scary' companies and authorities, and their expertise in financial law, tactics of creditors and the workings of benefits offices and so on is immense.

    2) It designed a financial awareness life skills course for teenagers in local schools. Rather than provide course materials and expect the teachers to do it, like PFeg does, the idea is that someone from this organisation or volunteers from the friendly CAB go in one hour a week for 8 weeks. I've watched the course in action and can think of so many adults who'd be so much more empowered if they'd taken it. For the past couple of years they've scrabbled the money together through various sources, but this year no kids will learn these valuable lessons because the funding just isn't there to run it.

They can't afford a website or to do outreach work, so at the moment all their referrals come when the person in trouble has got so bad they're already turning to Shelter or CAB or the local MP.

It would be so fantastic if they could have some money towards not only helping more people who are in trouble but HUGELY importantly, the preventative work by running this course in schools. The course is written, the schools want it and the kids need it. All it needs is some extra funds. As they tell the people they help - every penny counts!

If anyone would like more details I can put you in touch.

They also started a basic financial awareness course for teenagers in local schools, but can no longer afford to run this because they're struggling with funding. They carry on working with people for as long as it takes to get them back in the right direction.

    Dec 2005 £8,500

    April 2007 £0

Paid Off Since Lightbulb Moment £8,500

Debt Free Date: APRIL 16 2007

  • I would like to nominate this small charity which was set up in 2000 by a couple who reside in the UK, to look after the orphans in Malawi, an African country where 30% of people are effected by Aids.

FOMO's main aim is to set up care centres in rural communities to provide food security, health care and education to orphans in Malawi.

The number of children receiving help from FOMO has risen from 20 in the year 2000 to around 3000 today.

FOMO represents the value for money principal of 'Moneysavers', their UK arm is run by a small group of volunteers who in 2005 had only £50,000 of donations and provided care for 2700 orphaned children in 9 centres set up in Malawi employing local workers and volunteers.

This Charity gives value for every penny and a donation of a few thousand pounds from this site (which many larger Charities use on administration every week) would make a vast difference to the future of the thousands of children who FOMO provide care, nutrition, shelter, education, training and employment for.

To see the work of FOMO please view the video clip on their web site
http://www.fomo.co.uk/ and you will see the achievable difference which can be made by ordinary people and modist amounts of money and the great deal of love FOMO bring.

Help children who may have lost everything but still have the potential of every child.

FOMO UK Charity No is 1090727
