I should like to nominate Community Money Advice
https://www.communitymoneyadvice.com
They are a small charity doing a great work amongst people in debt.
They also train advisors from all over the country and help them set up free debt advice centres manned by volunteers.0 -
I would like to nominate the British Diabetic Association http://www.diabetes.org.uk/home.htm
They are a great charity and the number of diabetics are expected to increase over the next few years. To Dare is To Do:beer:0 -
I’d like to nominate SOS Children’s Villages UK (https://www.soschildren.org), who are not well known in this country but are actually the world’s largest orphan charity.
They look after children who have lost their parents to war, famine, disease, poverty and natural disasters. They care long-term for more than 60,000 children in over 444 unique children’s villages in 124 countries by giving them a loving home and a new mother. They help a further 800,000 in the community each year by providing: a quality education for children from poor families; vocational training for young people so they can become independent and contribute to their local economy; health awareness programmes and treatment for illness; support for those devastated by natural disasters; shelter and hot meals for street children; and support for child- and grandparent-led families affected by HIV/AIDS. They need funds to reach out to even more vulnerable children and families and give them brighter, more independent futures.
Many thanks0 -
1.SEND A COW
2.http://www.sendacow.org.uk/
3.Animals / agricultural equipment / training for self-help in Africa.
4.This charity provides proper sustainable help to enable those struggling against poverty in Africa to farm crops and livestock to feed themselves, and also for sale.
For me, it has two main attractions:-
1)training and ongoing support are given along with the livestock/equipment, so that they give maximum benefit.
2)the first female offspring of the donated animal has to be passed on to another needy family, and so the gift is spread.
This small charity was endorsed by Feargal Keene in the Independant as really making a difference on the ground.
Surely a self- replicating gift, provided with the backup to make it work, fully fits in with the MSE "value for money" ethos?!!The cow is of the bovine ilk,
One end is moo, the other milk.0 -
I'd love to nominate World Vision UK.
My Wife and I sponsor two kids through their child sponsorship programme and have been very impressed with their work, particularly with thier professional and informed approach to dealing with international relief and development.
They were some of the first charity workers to respond to the Asian Tsunami - and were well establised to provide aid from day 1.
Brilliant charity, bringing effective positive empowering change to the lives of people around the world.

I'd like to nominate Mercy Ships - https://www.mercyships.org.uk
They work in West Africa offering free medical care to the poor and needy.
Mercy Ships offer free surgeries to those with cleft lip & palate, cataracts, facial tumours, VVF (women who have had prolonged childbirth and have been left permanently incontinent, 24/7), and some orthopedic surgery, on board the ship. They also work in local communities teaching basic healthcare and teaching local people how to teach it, so passing it on. There is also a Community Development department and they work with local groups who need assistance with building projects and over the years they have built several clinics, including maternity wards, in areas where there is little or no healthcare. This gives a much needed boost to local people who are trying to help each other.

I would like to nominate the following charity
FAMILY MATTERS INSTITUTE
Moneystuff.co.uk
Learning together to enrich family life and relationships
Communications within the family is essential, however talking to children about money is often forgotten or put off to another day. Family Matters Institute (FMI) is a charity that plans to change this. Using many resources including a website and free telephone debt helpline it supports parents and children to talk together about money and debt. Children learn first and foremost from their parents, so FMI’s provides publications for parents and accredited financial education to run group family sessions on handling money. Topics range from pocket money to household budgeting. HOWEVER, we need YOUR help to fund the website and to produce fresh fun resources so that parents and children can learn how to talk about money together. Programmes give parents confidence in teaching their children good money practice and learning helps families to be debt free. Please vote FMI to help parents and children handle money together.:money:0 -
It may have been nominated already...but I'd like to nominate the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. It helps both children and adults and their families. It researches Cf and funded the research that identified the faulty gene. At present it has many doctors and clinical support that is sponsers at various hospitals in the U.K. It's not Govt Funded/aided in any way. It has a Social Fund to support familes when in financial difficulties (i.e. child in hospital long away from home). It's also been lobbying the Govt to keep it' 1997 Election promise and put CF on the list of Exempt Illness for Prescription Payments Yes lifesaving daily anti-biotic therapy has to be paid for. The problem is that CF sufferes used to die before adulthood...now they live longer !!
Thanks 4 reading my nomination. BTW on average a CF now makes it to 30+ years old !!!!What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
A. MERGE
B. http://www.meresearch.org.uk/
C. UK charity funding biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis
D.
MERGE is a national UK charity funding biomedical research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and related illnesses. Not many people realise that M.E. affects over 250,000 people in the UK, considerably more than the number affected by such well researched disorders such as AIDS, Lung and Breast cancer which nevertheless have a higher public profile, attracting far more sympathy and resources. MERGE commissions and funds much needed high-quality scientific investigation into the causes, consequences and treatment of ME and also have a mission to "Energise ME Research". An in-house team is involved in: identifying potentially important biomedical projects; publishing scientific papers on biomedical aspects of the illness; producing high-quality professional reviews and reports; presenting research at meetings and conferences; facilitating research applications by established researchers to grant-awarding bodies e.g. Gene Research. Suffering from M.E. myself, for 8 1/2 years, since my 18th birthday, I regard MERGE as the best M.E. charity.0 -
