  • I wish to nominate Breast Cancer Care

    https://www.breastcancercare.org.uk

For all their hard work they do in supporting sufferers and their families through what can be very tough times, they provide information booklets on all aspects of breast cancer in many NHS hospitals. My mother has had breast cancer and they helped her with their telephone support line, where you talk to someone who has been affected in the same way.

I'd like to nominate meningitis trust,

    http://www.meningitis-trust.org/

The Meningitis Trust is an international charity with a strong community focus, fighting meningitis through the provision of support, education & awareness and research.

I support this nomination as I almost died from meningitis 5 years ago and still suffer from after effects from this devastating disease. The Meningitis Trust has an excellent programme of support for survivors and is committed to research into the after effects suffered by survivors.
Please, all MSE forum readers, be aware of the symptoms and that it can hit at any age (I was 34) though a lot of the info out there is about meningitis in children

    https://www.differentstrokes.co.uk

National charity supporting younger stroke survivors since 1996.

In the UK stroke is a major killer, comparable with cancer , heart and respiratory diseases, and it is the largest single cause of severe disability.

Stroke is commonly seen as an affliction of old age, yet it frequently strikes people in the prime of life, often for no known reason. In the UK, each year over 10,000 people of working age have a stroke - nearly 200 every week. Over 1000 of these are under the age of thirty - 450 of them are children.

Different Strokes provides practical information packs, a regional network of exercise classes and/or swimming sessions, benefits and rights information, advice and info on education, training and work opportunities, newsletters to keep members in touch with each other, an interactive website, access to counselling services, and a helpline to ensure a prompt and practical response to the problems which confront stroke survivors and their families.
i also vote for different strokes there an excellent charity and sadly get no govement funding
  • I would like to nominate 2 charities that are very close to my heart for the wonderful support they have provided to me and my family since my daughters birth in 2004:

    1. Heartlink Childrens Charity at Glenfield Hospital for all the support they provide for parents whilst their children are in-patients at Glenfield and afterwards. For the money they raise to provide facilities for the children and their parents i.e parents bedrooms, childrens playroom and all the equipment they provide including the helicopter pad and the very special events that they run every year.

I don't believe they are thanked enough for what they do.

They are at present trying to raise funds to purchase a much needed 4D Scanner.

    2. Cardiomyopathy Association - Charity that supports people and their families who have cardiomyopathy. They provide much needed help, support and advice on this serious condition.

It is a registered charity which exists to help sufferers and medical professionals find ways to deal with a condition which, when identified can be monitored and, if required, treated with medication.

Cardiomyopathy is the number one cause of sudden death in the under twenty-fives. In most cases the illness is due to a genetic defect by fortunately if the symptoms are recognised, it is treatable.

They campaign for wider medical screening, gene testing and early recognition of symptoms, they work to raise awareness of cardiomyopathy.

  • I nominate TIA Greyhounds and Lurcher Rescue Centre.

    website is http://www.tiagreyhounds.org.uk

This rescue centre is specifically for rescued Greyhounds and Lurchers. The greyhounds are the mainly the result of unwanted dogs from the greyhound racing industry as recently highlighted in the Sunday Times, 10,000 dogs each year go "missing" when unwanted bt their trainers/ owners. TIA try and find homes for these dogs, if they cannot then they keep them in their kennels. Lurchers are a cross between a greyhound and another dog and find themselves at TIA as unwanted pups. Please support this charity as they rely solely on goodwill and donations- nothing at all as far as I know from the greyhound racing industry.
    Thank you
  • I would like to put forward for nomination
    Chetwynd Teddies Creche
    Charity registration no: 1097097

we give respite to military families

We have no website as we cannot afford one!

We do not receive money from any where else and me and my staff spend lots of our free time fundraising like loons to try to raise money to buy basic equipment and resources. All the children who attend are Military children whos parents namely fathers are away for a huge percentage of the year in places such as Afghanisatn and Iraq. We provide 5 sessions per week to give the mums a bit of respite care and time to them selves whilst their partners are away. It can be very hard living as a forces family with Dad away nearly all the time so by providing the creche for the children we provide such an important service and we would benefit so much even from the smallest donation. Thank you for reading.
  • I would also like to nominate credit action https://www.creditaction

An excellant charity who work hard to educate all about finances -young and old alike. Superb material available too.

    Thanks!

I would like to see some of the money go to an animal charity for a change, we are suppose to be a nation of animal lovers after all.
We don't give them the respect they deserve anyway and most people would rather turn their heads when it comes to animal cruelty. Like children, they don't ask to be put in terrible situations plus they don't have the option to speak out when they want to. Instead of taking them for granted as the household pet or disregarding the fact that we rip up their homes to make way for ours (in terms of wildlife), could we not support the good of an animal charity??

    Some suggestions.....

  • I would like to nominate a charity called PPUK-DUCHENNE MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY https://www.ppuk.org
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a severe muscle wasting disease, my gorgeous son who is 6 years old faces a wheelchair by the time he 10 and without a cure will die as a young adult.
PPUK is a charity that funds research into finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Without money the cure will take even longer to find, time my son has not got. I pray for this cure to be found
PLEASE HELP ALL YOU CAN so that lives can be saved and families like mine are not devastated

Money donated to PPUK is not wasted on paying for company expenses, money goes directly to finding a cure. Please help all you can.
  • I would like to nominate http://www.thyroiduk.org/ a group working to give information and support to people of all ages in the UK suffering from Thyroid Disease, a most debilitating condition. They also run support groups and publish a most informative newsletter.
