Same nomination as I made last year.
1. NACC (National Association of Colitis and Crohns)
2. https://www.nacc.org.uk
3. Providing support, information and funding research into Colitis and Crohns disease
4. NACC provides support, advice and information for sufferers of colitis and Crohns disease, as well as funding research into finding a cure (as no such thing currently exists) and raising awareness of the devastating effect these diseases can have on sufferers lives. They also provide a welfare fund for people in financial difficulty as a result of these illnesses.
Colitis and Crohns disease are inflammatory bowel diseases which affect up to 180,000 people in the UK, causing a wide range of symptoms such as severe diarrhoea, constipation, chronic pain, nutritional deficiencies, weight loss, exhaustion and osteporosis amongst others (as well as the knock on effects on personal, social and career life).
I have been suffering from this debillitating disease for nearly ten years, and have been unable to work for that same period (and it is causing me particular financial and personal issues at present), and NACC have been an invaluable source of support and information, as they are to thousands of people across the country.0 -
I would like to nominate 'Kids'. https://www.kids.org.uk
Kids is a medium sized charity that delivers vital services to disabled children and their families across England. It is unique as it works with children and young people with all types of disabilities. Disabilities include those with autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties, behavioural difficulties, development delay, communication difficulties, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. The following services are offered:
• Under 5’s education - giving children the best possible start in life
• Play and leisure - giving children equal access to leisure opportunities
• Family support services - helping families cope practically and emotionally
• Information, training and advice - sharing skills, knowledge and experience
I cannot stress enough of how important these services are to so many disabled children and their families.0 -
I would like to nominate Tools for Self Reliance
a. Official name of charity ~ Tools for Self Reliance
b. website: https://www.tfsr.org
c. 8 word desciption: Practical help for practical people in Africa
Tools for Self Reliance is a UK based charity working to support trades people in Africa through the provision of tools, sewing machies and equipment. In the UK a network of over 500 volunteers support this work through the collection and refurbishment of donated tools. Once tools are cleaned and refusbished they are packed into kits and used to respond to requests for support from trades people looking to develop their income generating enterprises. Working through established organisations in Africa allows for additional support to be offered to trades people in the form of micro-credit, business and marketing training, product improvement and diversification.
Tools for Self Reliance is celebrating 25 years as a charity and continues to meet a need that few other charitable organisations are meeting - practical help for practical people.
Disclaimer - I see others have done this, so should say that I do work for this charity. Part of my job involves going to Africa to meet some of the receipients of our support. I have seen for myself the value and importance of a box of tools to a small business enterprise. Tools that have lain idle in the back of a shed or sewing machines that have gathered dust in the attic are given a new lease of life and provide a real means for people to work themselves out of poverty.0 -
Please vote for my nomination, the Meningitis Research Foundation!
When I was a teenager doing Saturday work in a newsagent, I worked with a lady whose 14 month old baby brother had tragically lost his life to this disease. Her parents battled tirelessly to get what was then The Meningitis Research Appeal off the ground, and she gave all her colleagues "Symptoms Cards", which we all memorised the details thereon!Lucky me, because six years ago swift self-diagnosis most possibly SAVED MY LIFE!!Not only that, but dedicated members of the Helpline team provided invaluable support and information to my worried relatives, as I lay hooked up to equipment in Intensive Care.
I, thankfully, made a full recovery, but please take a look at https://www.meningitis.org and see why their work needs your vote.Meningitis Research Foundation's vision is a world free from meningitis and septicaemia.0 -
I'd like to nominate the they following organisation:
Name: Toynbee Hall
Website: https://www.toynbeehall.org.uk
Description: A Tower Hamlets based charity working
Services Against Financial Exclusion, within Toynbee Hall, provides practical services to support people on low incomes, helping them manage their money more efficiently. This includes helping people access specific financial services, as well as providing debt advice and pensions education.
From a solely Tower Hamlets based service, SAFE has now widened its support to across London and the South East. It has shown how providing relevant and tailored help on a local scale can help develop solutions to financial exclusion that are relevant nationally.
Since 2002 SAFE provided financial capability training for over 2,000 individuals, helped 2,400 people to open bank accounts, and worked with over 200 organizations to help build capacity. Recently SAFE launched ‘Transact’, a national forum that acts as a link for practitioners, policy-makers, funders, Government, the financial services industry and other associations to support shared thinking on financial inclusion and proactively promote a diversity of solutions.0 -
I've just seen that someone has nominated Kids - I can't recommend this charity highly enough. My friend's daughter, who is 16 and has Down's Syndrome, has received Kids services throughout her life and the postivie impact they have made on her life is amazing. Whats really special about them is that they look after the whole family, not just the disabled child, so the parents, brothers and sisters get the emotional and practical support they need too.0

I would like to nominate Prospect Burma "keeping the flame of education alive" as a charity deserving your funds. Their website is https://www.ProspectBurma.org and they support education for Burmese students - most of whom have had to flee their country in order to receive an education. In addition to their scholarship programme they also support an English Language School for desperately poor Burmese refugees in New Delhi, and teacher training programmes on the Thai/Burma border. They are a UK registered educational charity No 802615.0

PLEASE VOTE TO IMPROVE THE LIFE OF PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY
Epilepsy affects 1 in 131 people in the UK and is the most common serious neurological condition. It kills 1,000 people a year. People with epilepsy are often stigmatised by society. Many people are afraid if they see someone having a seizure. Many don’t know what to do. Having epilepsy can have a huge impact on the way you live your life. Just one seizure means you have to give up your driving licence. Research shows that people from socially and economically deprived backgrounds are more than twice as likely to have epilepsy than those who are not. There is no other organisation with NSE’s knowledge, connections, facilities and reputation. They offer a service second to none and have changed my life around. This time last year I was having seizures on a daily basis. Thanks to NSE I’m seizure free, back in work and I have a life again.
Thankyou for nominating us (NSE) we desperately need to educate people about epilepsy and raise the profile of this misunderstood condition. :A :A0 -
I'd like to nominate Global Action Plan
https://www.globalactionplan.org.uk
Encourages small changes to help the environment.

I would like to nominate Pump Aid. Pump Aid - Water for Life
Pump Aid is a unique charity that uses simple, sustainable technology to provide clean water for drinking and irrigation in Africa.
Success 121 has been a supporter of this extremely worthwhile cause since November 2003 and has been successful in spreading the message of Pump Aid throughout its network of clients and contacts. To date these efforts have resulted in an estimated 80 pumps being installed in Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
Just £200 (280€) funds the building of a water pump, providing sustainable water supplies for schools and villages. This allows the people to free themselves of waterborne diseases and helps them to grow crops so that they become self sufficient, not only in providing food for themselves, but for others too.
For more information on Pump Aid, visit the web site: www.PumpAid.org."If you don't change today, your tomorrows will be like your yesterdays"0
