  • I nominate Langdon Community..Based in London and Manchester it provides care and supportfor Jewish children with learning difficulties and enables them to live almost independant lives

    https://www.langdon.info

They need to receive outside donations as its their main aim to provide a home for these young adults for life..In order to do so they need to buy properties as oppose to renting so eventually they will own the houses outright.. It costs on average £11000(for 3 people) to kit out a house with everything from dustpan to cooker..So every little helps..I am passionate about this cause as both my children are part of the Langdon Community and without them I bear not think about what their furture would have been..or indeed mine!
  • I would like to nominate BLISS - the premature baby charity:

    https://www.bliss.org.uk

BLISS is dedicated to ensuring that more babies survive, have the best possible quality of life and that their parents and families get the support they need.

To give you some idea about the charity's work, look at your outstretched hand, palm upwards. That’s how small many of the babies BLISS works to support are. The UK is a wealthy nation and yet it is seriously failing sick and premature babies. Premature birth is not a rare event. A shocking one in eight, or 80,000, babies a year in the UK need help to survive. This is the worst rate in Western Europe.

BLISS is the only national organisation dedicated to working for special care babies and their families, and is dependent on voluntary donations to fund its work.

    Many thanks for your consideration!

    a. The Official Name of the Charity
    FareShare

    b. The Website of the Charity
    http://www.fareshare.org.uk/

    c. A desciption of no more than 8 words of the charity
Delivering surplus food to people in need

    d. One paragaph only (max 150 words) of why this charity should be
    supported.
This wonderful charity collects food which would otherwise end up in landfill and supplies it to projects which feed people who need it - hostels, day centres, etc. The food may be past its "Display until" date but is still good. FareShare's rules insist that the receiving organisation has staff who understand food hygiene and that food is destroyed if not eaten by its "Best-before" date. They collect from Marks & Sparks, Pret a Manger, etc. So this charity helps people who are in real poverty to get nourishing food, which in turn helps their physical and mental health. And it avoids waste, and food going to landfill. Although they have volunteer drivers, navigators, sorters and office staff, they have expenses in running their vehicles and premises and general admin. All MoneySavers should be delighted to support this charity which helps people poorer than most of us, and saves waste.

My Vote goes to the THT...

You may not know that HIV and sexual health monies are no longer 'ring-fenced' by the government, local NHS organisations have slashed preventative work and yet

THE RIGHT OF HIV AND STD's ARE THE FASTEST RISING DISEASE AREAS.

As one of the few preventable diseases catergories, shouldn't we invest in yours, mine and our childrens future??
  • The British Legion and WAY (widowed and young). I am now 33, but at the age of 27years old, 7 months after getting married, my husband died suddenly in traumatic circumstances.

Widowed and Young saved my sanity, and The British Legion supported me to re-train as a massage therapist, to earn a better income, as could not continue nursing, as it was too painful having stood the other side of the bed.

Our military lads are always being forgotten about, are their young widows left behind to pick up the pieces...........

    Many thanks for reading

  • I would like to nominate the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution.
RABI offers financial support to working & retired members of the farming community.

The web site address is https://www.rabi.org.uk

Many farmers believe that they do not qualify for state benefits so the RABI ensures that they are on the correct state benefits. If their income is still low the RABI make regular grants to them to make their life just a little more comfortable. RABI also help with the cost of disability equipment, you would be surprised how little is available on the NHS!
Working farmers can have help with domestic bills in times of crisis such as being unable to trade because of TB.
If appropriate RABI will also help arrange free business advice.
  • My nomination is Refugee Action.

    Name: Refugee Action
    Website: http://www.refugee-action.org.uk/
Description: works with refugees to build new lives in the UK

    Justification:
Refugees have been victims of the governments latest scapegoating campaign, as a result of which people who are genuinely fleeing persecution are now treated worse than criminals here. Having fled persecution and made the momentous decision to leave everything behind (can you imagine how hard that is to do), they arrive here and are locked up and put through a confusing and biased legal process.

Refugee Action provides support, a listening ear and expert legal representation to people who clearly should be able to claim refuge here, but who have fallen foul of the system, been badly represented or advised and find themselves being thrown out, and sent back to torture, imprisonment or death in their home country.

With all the conflicts and untold health crises happening in the world, the need for primary care clinicians (not just doctors) is as critical as ever.

The difference that a simple procedure such as IV rehydration, treatment for malaria or providing a sterile environment for child birth, can make is huge... literally the difference between life and death.
