Hi All,
War War War
So much of it on our screens.
We watch from our armchairs.
In these recent wars, cluster bombs have been used, which are now causing terrible injuries.
So I would like to suggest the following :
Handicap International UK is a registered charity (no. 1082565).
http://www.handicap-international.org.uk
To support the needs of disabled people in countries affected by poverty and conflict.
**********************************************************
" Support Handicap International’s Ban Cluster Bombs campaign
Cluster bombs are canisters containing up to several hundred bomblets, which spread over a large area once dropped or fired. Millions of bomblets were dropped during the recent conflicts in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq, killing and maiming civilians. Cluster bombs violate the Geneva Conventions, as they affect civilians and military forces indiscriminately. Cluster bombs which do not explode on impact effectively pose the same threat as landmines. They can explode at any time, killing and maiming sometimes long after a conflict has ended. "
Please also sign petition to ban cluster bombs :

MIND (National Association For Mental Health)
http://www.mind.org.uk/
Helping/Supporting People Who Experience Mental Distress.
I think that MIND do a brilliant job to help and support people who have any experience of mental distress. I feel mental health is often underfunded in the NHS and often not really catered for in major fundraising campaigns, which makes it harder for people who are suffering to get the help and care they need, not to mention the stigma attatched to having mental health problems causing more problems. Mental health problems can occur in anybody, at any time and for any reason which is why i think it's so important that more attention and funding is given to charties that focus on these problems. There is also a relevance to this site also because a lot of people in debt/having problems managing money can also start to suffer with depression/anxiety etc, which can lead to them self harming, or comitting suicide.LeanneG wrote:I would like to nominate MIND. This is a mental health charity. My reasons for this are personal - A member of my family commited suicide and this charity would help a lot to those who have mental health issues that could lead to suicide. I believe that MIND is underfunded and is not as publicised as some because of its status. Suicide is a serious problem worldwide, you dont realise how many people are victims of it until you become one.

One in four people suffer mental distress, yet it is still highly stigmatised in society. As mentioned before in this thread, debt can often be both a trigger of and result of mental illness, making this a relevant charity for MSE to support. While many other charities are often backed by celebrities, MIND and similar mental health charities plough on with their great work without high-profile backing. They are a fantastic source of information and are, literally, lifesaving.
I too would like to nominate MIND for personal reasons.
My wife suffers from mental illness. Not giving to many details but a very worthy cause.I have a cunning plan!

I would like to nominate Arthritis Care, a charity that is very much seen as the poor relation.
There are over 9 million people in the UK who live with the daily if not hourly misery of arthritis, either osteo or rheumatoid. If you think that every one of these people has at least one other person as a carer or affected by the illness then that's a minimum of 18 million directly affected by it, which is a huge proportion of the population. It is no respector of age, class, sex, gender or race.
There are over 200 different forms of arthritis; indeed many people don't always realise that their condition is arthritis. For example, gout, fibromyalgia and lupus.
Arthritis Care does have trouble attracting much-needed funds because of its perceived image as something that only affects the elderly, so any money would be hugely welcome.Contrary to the general view that this is a condition that only affects old people, it can actually strike at any age from children of 2 upwards.

There are nine million people with arthritis in the UK. That’s nine million individuals, plus their families, each affected in a unique way. Arthritis Care aims to make a positive difference to your life.
From high quality information and support to empower you to take control of your arthritis, to campaigning for change… Arthritis Care is here for you.

I would like to nominate the Motor Neurone Disease Association
I have a purely sentimental reason for nominating as my uncle died of MND at the age of 46 within 5 months of being diagnosed. I would dearly love to see the end of this awful disease, during my lifetime.
The website is https://www.mndassociation.org.uk
Thanks. x0 -
I would like to nominate two charities. One is the Cerebral Palsy Centre in Cliffe Woods Kent. They help children and adults as well as the older population.
http://www.cerebralpalsycare.co.uk/our_work.php
Without them my son would not be able to receive valuable treatment for his condition.
Also I would like to nominate Arrow Riding Centre in Dartford Kent. They also rely on donations to help disabled children and adults. Again valuable treatment from horse riding has resulted in my sons ability to get stronger.
Many Thanks

I would like to nominate two charities:
Firstly:
British Thyroid Foundation (http://www.btf-thyroid.org)
Support for people with Thyroid conditions
Thyroid problems affect 1 in 10 women and 1 in 100 men - or there abouts, and the British Thyroid Foundation is one of only a few support systems. It relies totally upon members for money and is a small informative charity.
Secondly:
Diabetes UK (https://www.diabetes.org.uk)
Support and advice for people with or carers of diabetes
A larger charity that provides support to newly diagnosed diabetics along with established ones. It is also pressures the powers to be for changes in diabetic care.Loving freebies:coffee::rotfl:0 -
I would like to nominate Trail-Blazers - https://www.trail-blazers.org.uk (reg.no. 1074453) a small charity that works with young offenders between 15 -21 years old in young offenders institutes (i.e. prisons).
Trailblazers trains volunteers as mentors. Mentors come into the prison to work with young people on an accredited life and social skills course (including budgeting and debt management) and to provide support and a listening ear. Upon release, the mentor is there to help with finding housing, training, a job, etc. and to try and help the young person to stay on the straight and narrow.
Young people in prison is not an appealing cause to most - therefore it is very difficult to raise money for this charity and it could definitely do with a helping hand itself!
Thank you!

I would like to nominate Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) to receive some of the money.
MSF is an independent humanitarian medical aid agency committed to two objectives: providing medical aid wherever needed, regardless of race, religion, politics or sex and raising awareness of the plight of the people they help.
These guys are all over the world trying to help the people that need it the most. If you are watching TV and seeing all the disasters in the world, the starvation in Africa, the war in the Middle East, you will see why this charity needs all the help it can get to continue their good work.
Thanks.0 -
I would like to nominate Credit Action. It's a registered charity which helps people get out of debt. See http://www.creditaction.org.uk.0

In a rush but just wanted to quickly add my nominations.
I would like to nominate the RSPCA and also the PDSA (Peoples Dispensory for Sick Animals)
They both do great jobs protecting the lives of mistreated animals with little funding and lots of kind hearted volunteers!
Thanks
