    What, not even Trisha? ;)

sleeeeeep, I was just talking to my freind about that this afternoon. I can't remember the last time that I had a lie in past 8 am or the last time I woke up naturaly, not because my ds was bouncing on the bed wanting his breakfast at 6 am.

I never get control of the remote until about 10pm when my oldest goes to bed, it's a good job I prefer the pc to the tv lol
You are just sooooooo right! I have no alarm clock as the littlest littlie wakes me up bang on 5.45am ready to be fed, changed and play, play, play (I don't mind, as i have to get up sometime, and littlest littlie is really cute and gurgly at this un-godly hour of the morning)...
Then I have all good intentions to be in bed for midnight...and by the time i get my jobs done, work done and even (heaven forfend) wasting a few minutes chatting on line or doing compies (I am a complete compie addict) then it's 1.30 am and yet another late night...
I try and work on the theory that mums don't need as much sleep as the rest of the human race, but have my doubts at times:p

Not everyone is suitable for teaching, even if they are intelligent, not everyone wants to do it - and what happens to your children when they are off sick? You can't book leave, you can only have the school holidays. Not the 'easy choice' you make it out to be.

Teaching and single parenthood are very tough combination. I have been doing this for four years and been very close to total exhaustion at some points. You do a very demanding job all day, bring piles of work home. Spend the holidays preparing for the next session. You never get time off- when you are not a teacher, you are a mum. You have children dependent on you and around you 100% of the time. Sometimes I feel in a relentless treadmill. The thing I long for most is time alone. It is hard if your own child is off school. My own child has special needs. On several occaisions I have not been able to attend her review meetings because I have had to attend review meetings for my pupils. I am too drained in the evenings to give her the support with her homework she needs. If she is playing in a concert in the evenings I am struggling to keep awake.

I love my child. I am the only person there for her - and I can't give 100%. I would never recommend this to other single parents.

It was simply a suggestion, not an order.

Its no ones business how someone has paid off their mortgage. Although I would like to know purely so that I could get some tips!

I dont care if people are educated if they need benefit they need benefit. Please be nice to people on threads, some of them really do help others. Ok state your opnion but its best that you read your post through to try and make sure you are not coming over as being offensive.

Yes, I understand that...my reply was simply a response to it!

I will say though, having lived with a teacher husband, that had he have been a single parent he would have had the nervous breakdown ten years before he actually did have it.

Not a soft option at all...as someone else has pointed out, if you are a teacher AND a single parent, your life is is 100% child-centred...and it's usually other people's children, not your own, that it's centred on.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
