When I replace my washing up bowl I always keep the old one for use in the garden. Today I planted salad leaves, peas (from supermarket dried peas a la Alys Fowler, for pea shoots) and rocket in three of them. They are much sturdier than the plastic troughs you buy for growing these sort of things and cost nothing, just the work of drilling holes in the bottom.
Oh dear, here we go again.

I got some marked down veg from B&Q yesterday, part tray of cabbage plants and wild rocket for 50p per strip, as some were in poor condition. Still got more plants in the trays than was advertised. (30 wild rocket seedlings). Also got some pots of parsley, apple mint and a butternut squash for 20p per pot.

A couple of weeks ago I got a tray of plum tomatoes, only 3 still alive for 50p instead of £3 something. All 3 are in brilliant condition now, all they needed was a bit of watering, and getting rid of dried up leaves.

Used the last of the two year old lovely compost from my dalek so started a new batch today. Found a tin of out of date seeds in the back of the shed so just threw them in while it was raining, it always works for my mums garden so here's hoping it works for me.

I cut the top half off some empty water bottles, using the top part wit the lid on I've put them on top of my bamboo canes to both scare the birds and stop me taking an eye out when I bend down.

discovered a row of self-seeded leeks growing amongst the weeds in the far end of the veg plot. I left some leeks in last year to seed ---beautiful big round purple flower heads BTW
but didnt get round to harvesting the seed. But they have seeded themselves! I transplanted some into a freshly prepared bed this morning.

Just potted up tomato seedlings, jalapeno pepper seedlings, and basil in every size and shape of plastic pot in my stash of empties from the kitchen. The front porch looks crazy but who cares.
