Already posted this on the os board, but I got a free black composter bin from a neighbour at the weekend.

I didn't do anything money-saving yesterday, but I repotted a few Cotoneaster trees I'm growing from seed picked up in front of the Royal Crescent in Bath about 18 months ago. They are already around 60cm tall, so I began to prune side shoots & straighten the main stem.

I also spotted that some Acacia dealbata, collected from under a tree last autumn, were just coming through. So were some Galactites I'd scattered. The latter are particularly pleasing, because I guerilla-gardened a parent plant when I moved last year, hoping to harvest some seed later, but the foul winter weather killed it.

Cut an old garden fleece into 4 strips and OH sewed ends together to make 2 x 1sqM vertical fleeces to stop carrot root fly.

In the past couple of weeks, we have -

Dug up wild garlic and planted it in our garden.
Planted seeds in toilet roll tubes.
Left the veg peelings etc. in a bucket with some water, when it's full I'll strain it and use it as liquid feed.
Mr tru has been peeing in the compost bin :D

Today I sowed some salad seeds in a plastic kiwi tub because I ran out of pots and trays.

Today I jet washed my patio with a washer borrowed from my neighbour, and poured boiling water over the weeds that I couldn't dig up rather than using weedkiller.

I potted on about 30 aqualeiga seedlings, in previous years wouldn't have dreamt of growing anything from seeds - would have just gone down the nursery and filled my trolley. I'm getting far more pleasure and satisfaction from growing my own :D

At the weekend I'm going to sow cucumber, radish & onion seeds in containers that have had 'another life'!!!

Btw - great thread, will give all of us some ideas we hadn't thought of. Thanks zarazara

How do you do that..? :money:

There are many sites giving instructions but this one has a video and shows you don't need any special tools to do it!

    It's only a game

I received some free bubble wrap today, a single piece approx 2 x 1 metre, it will be great for keeping my seedlings warm.
