they do do the deal. they are just being difficult about it. there is a long thread elsewhere about this deal on a few other forums. think there was one about this on the HotUKDeals forums about the £285 desire for existing O2 customers. loads of people have bought this deal. on those forums there is advice on the key words to use when you call and how to negotiate to get this deal. the key is not to say upgrade etc or even PAC code. the key is to say i want to buy a phone out right and am an existing customer and would like to buy the htc desire for 285£ offered to existing customers. say you dont want a new contract as you already have a contract and just want to buy the phone, i am told they had stock. if they refuse then ask to speak to manager or complaints section. best of luck. even existing monthly rolling contacts customeres i think called simplicity have managed to buy at this price on this deal.

extract from HUKD forums. for this O2 deal.
""Phone 202 - press option 2, option 2 and then finally the third option 2 for the 'if you're thinking of leaving o2'
DO NOT CALL SALES OR UPGRADES - YOU MUST CALL THROUGH TO 202, opt 2, opt 2 and opt 2."

"When you get through say you would like to buy a HTC desire for £285 - do not mention your renewal, don't mention upgrades."" people seem to have got this deal on the 19th as well.

    Thanks
Will try again later today, hopefully I will manage to get the deal.

Well I have done the deal and O2 have sold me the Desire for £285 after I followed those instructions. They have also put me onto a £15 pcm 12 months tariff with 300 mins and unlimited texts and data. (unlimited data ends this thursday and is then capped at 500mb)

    thanks allround.

So your cost over 18 months is £30 per month.

You could have gone to https://www.buymobilephones.com and got the same for £25 per month. Also https://www.mobilephonesdirect.com have similar deals. Note, both with no up front loading. You do have the advantage of being able to change your deal if you want.

Agreed but do actually like O2 and have my broadband with them.(so that would have increased in price without an O2 monile contract) That deal you mentioned is with T-mobile and I get a lousy signal with them where I live.

Not sure if it should be here or Voda retentions thread, so i'll put it on both! I am at the end of an 18 month Voda contract and e-mailed them last night at 22.30 to give my 30 days notice. I am currently on 300m 300 texts and unlimited data for £25.00 p/m . I got a phone call from Retentions team this morning at 10am asking why I was leaving. Told them I had been offered a good deal on a Desire at T-mobile and they told me as I was a good customer and didn't want to lose me, they could offer a deal where they just covered the cost of the phone during the life of the contract: this was 600mins, unlimited texts, unlimited data for £22 p/m with a free Desire over 18 months.

I agreed to renew as I thought it was a pretty good deal.

Lucky you - wish I could have the same

I guess I'm a bad customer for Orange - low tariff (£15) and VERY VERY high usage of unltd text (going over 3000 on many occasions:o:o:o

I don't know what to do and I really need to get my new phone soon (my own phone is on its last toes never mind last legs)

    Hi...

I'll be in the same position as you next month.

Although life would be simpler if I was offered a similar deal as you and then didnt have to change networks, from what I can gather Vodafone only offer a maximum 1GB data allowance, but t-mobile offer 3GB with an Android handset.

So... unless Vodafone can offer me 3GB I'll have no option but to move to t-mobile.

What's the maximum GB allowance forum members have been offered by Vodafone and what was the contract lengh, monthly cost, bundled minutes & texts, free handset model etc ?

    M.
