Ryanair Volcanic Dust Rip Off

What a ridiculous EC regulation. I can understand the need for hotel/food if a cancellation/re-route is down to the airline. But this has absolutely nothing to do with the airlines. The airlines should claim all the money from the EC for coming up with such a crackpot scheme, the only point of which appears to be to try and bankrupt airlines.0

The regulation makes sense in that if the airline decide not to run your flights (they cancel), or cannot run your flight (aircraft breakdown), then the airline must look after it's passengers until they can be flown home. I don't think the regulation was originally drafted to cope with unprecedented airspace closures outside of the airlines control.Legal team on standby0

If I book a flight then I make a contract with the airline. If I cannot fly then I take the hit - I don't get a refund. I suffer all the financial consequences of not taking that flight. So I take insurance or choose to run the risk.
If the airline can't fly me, then they are breaking the contract. According to the law they suffer the financial consequences of that. They could choose to insure the risk or carry the risk themselves.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. hi, i was originally supposed to fly to rome from liverpool tomorrow morning (22nd), however, yesterday, my flight was listed as cancelled. i submitted a request for refund online and have cancelled my accommodation in rome. however, ryanair have now said that the flight is no longer cancelled. will i still be entitled for a refund? there is no way i can make it to rome as i have changed my plans here, and cancelled my accommodation in rome. ive been trying to phone customer services, but no luck.0

Has anyone ACTUALLY been able to speak to ryan air in the last few days??
I have spent 3 hours over the last 2 days trying to get through to them only to be cut off after 10 minutes or so.
I only want to change the return flights which appears impoosible online  I have more then paid for this in phone calls alone.
That's cost you £18 then, assuming you're calling from a landline!
When my flight was cancelled and the website would not let me rebook, I bought a new flight for £40 at another airline to save myself the hassle of trying to call them and waste my time and money. Annoyingly, the Ryanair website then let me change it the next day so I now have two flights the same day and have wasted £40!0 -

In exactly the same boat as you (but more of a gondala as i was due to fly to venice tomorrow) Wife had to give up on the phone to them earlier.
They sent an email at 19.21 stating our flight is now operating (after cancelling yesterday), so that's 20 mins after their call centre closes and to get this flight we'd have to be at the airport for check-in at 6am tomorrow and like yourself have cancelled our accomodation.
Really doesn't look like they'll honour their earlier cancellation/refund as they'll now class it us as a no-show but still probably sell our seats on for a handsome profit.
Utterly ridiculous0 -
Yes I've had the same problem - flight shown as cancelled until this afternoon when it was reinstated. Like you, I'd requested a refund, cancelled my accommodation and made other plans.
Our flight is 0645 tomorrow - one of the very first of the 'normal' schedule. What are our rights in this case? Some airlines are asking customers to cancel if they can but Ryanair are not - tried phoning but gave up after 50 mins (ie. 5 quid!!).0 -

If you fly on Ryanair you have to accept their conditions (and get ripped off). If Ryanair wishes to fly in EU airspace it has to accept their conditions.
Compared with other airlines they can afford it.
I expect some of the penny flights have costs the passengers a small fortune.
It may not be O'Leary's fault, but for once he can begin to feel what it's like to be one of his passengers being ripped off by one of his conditions of carraige.0 -
Well he's certainly getting plenty of publicity on CNN. Not the kind he will be wanting, especially when they are praising Easy Jet for putting on extra flights to get their customers home.0
