Ryanair Volcanic Dust Rip Off

Problem is the maps (whether accurate or not) were showing more (potential) problems now than they were last Thursday/Friday/Saturday, so...Why should they?
Met Office have provided ash cloud forecasts and modelling to NATS and the CAA as they should. The last 6 days have proven that their computer modelling has been incredibly accurate.
It is the standards that have changed, and this seems to have happened after meeting with the airlines, and its BA who have been particularly vocal.
a) Triumph of greed over safety from the Airlines, or
b) Incorrect info/incompetence from NATS/CAA/Met Office (ie nobody could be arrised to ask the airlines/engine manufacturers).
Not sure whether "the standards have changed"
1) backs up (a) above (eg is scary), or
2) backs up (b) above (and is scary for different reasons).
Met Office maps are here btw http://metoffice.com/aviation/vaac/data/0 -

Apparently the engine manufacturers changed their recommendations in terms of tolerance sometime today. No way of telling whether this is based on any new evidence or on pressure from the airlines.b) Incorrect info/incompetence from NATS/CAA/Met Office (ie nobody could be arrised to ask the airlines/engine manufacturers)0 -
            NOTE:
reroute definition
re·route (rē ro̵ut′, -ro̵̅o̅t′)
transitive verb rerouted -·rout′ed, rerouting -·rout′·ing
to send by a new or different route
re-route (re-routes 3rd person present) (re-routing present participle) (re-routed past tense & past participle ), reroute If vehicles or planes are re-routed, they are directed along a different route because the usual route cannot be used.
QUOTE:
Cancellation
1. In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall:
(a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8(choice of re-routing or refund); and
(b) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 9(1)(a) and 9(2) (meals + refreshments plus 2 phone calls) , as well as, in event of re-routing when the reasonably expected time of departure of the new flight is at least the day after the departure as it was planned for the cancelled flight, the assistance specified in Article 9(1)(b) and 9(1)(c) (hotel accommodation and transfer thereto)
Ryanair has not re-routed passengers. Therefore 9,1,b and 9,1,c do not apply.⚠ 2014 - COUNTDOWN TO INDEPENDENCE ⚠0 -
However the dictionary definition and the air industry definition of re-route are NOT the same. Re-routing in the air industry is any situation where the passenger travels at or in a different schedule, class, route or carrier to that originally specified in their reservation.
So, Ryanair HAS re-routed passengers, and 9(1)(b) and 9(1)(c) do apply.0 -
Can you link me to anywhere which shows this definition.....

Quote:
The term rerouting may be confusing, in that the actual route does not have to change (although it could) - i.e. any change to flights, dates, times or destinations are considered rerouting.
Just as an example. Ryanair has clearly re-routed passengers according to the generally accepted usage of the term in the airline/travel industry.0 -
With regards to anything uttered by Ryanair take note of that RYANAIR CHIEF executive Michael O’Leary has been branded a liar by Mr Justice Peter Kelly of the Dublin high court source :

I was driving up to York on Thursday; the shutdowns were being reported on the travel bulletins. I noticed that at some airports they reported that Ryanair flights would stop earlier.
Throughout the shutdown I have seen and heard reports that flights were not due to resume until a certain time, but Ryanair would be later, sometimes not the same day.
I believe Ryanair can profit out of the chaos, I believe their cabin crew are paid per flight, there are the premium rate numbers and the situation where in order to make the trip one flight may be rebooked free but the return would still fly, so you have to pay, and get stung for it at a price.
I think this is why Ryanair will always maximise the downtime of any cause that it can claim is not of it’s own making.
As for the people who love to fly for a penny, who do you really think is paying for your flight?
1) We’ve paid the full price, Ryanair would make a profit if every passenger only paid a penny.
2) We got a cheap deal because someone else got ripped off.
Your penny flight is the bait to catch a the big fish, when the big fish disappear so you will your penny flights.0 -
Has anyone ACTUALLY been able to speak to ryan air in the last few days??
I have spent 3 hours over the last 2 days trying to get through to them only to be cut off after 10 minutes or so.
I only want to change the return flights which appears impoosible online  I have more then paid for this in phone calls alone.0 -

            Hi,
I'm currently stuck in Finland after they cancelled my return flight back to London. I am Finnish although I live and study in London. First few nights we stayed with friends but now we had to stay in a hotel. We were due back Sun 18.4 and our new booked flight is not until next sunday.
I've been trying to figure out whether Ryanair has to pay for our hotel or not.. Clearly the regulations say yes butr there is one sentence that says 'exept in case of whether distruption' or something.. I cant take the risk of paying the hotel and then not getting compensation. I've read few articles that people have taken legal actions against Ryanair and lost in similar cases..
It's hard to find any info because the Finnish are only trying to get other finns back to Finland but no one knows what happens to Finns who live somewhere else and are stuck here..
People in this forum are saying different things about the compensations so I really don't know the right from wrong.. AND on top of that they dont even know in Ryanair's finnish phone what to do.
Don't worry: the law is very clear, and Ryanair will have to pay for your meals and hotel. Just be sure to keep your receipts very carefully!
There have not been any court cases about this, since the airlines are not keen for the law to be tested in the courts and probably strengthened. In many cases they have ignored the rules until the passenger takes them to court, but settled in full rather than actually fighting the case.0
