Ryanair Volcanic Dust Rip Off

Hi everyone - can I get a bit of advice about rights under the EU aviation regs.
I booked two flights for tomorrow. London to Madrid at 8.30am (cancelled) and a connecting flight from MAdrid to Tangiers (not cancelled).
I booked the same return route for Monday - but the return flight from Madrid to London is with Easyjet. Obviously the retunr two flights are not cancelled yet.
My question is - does Ryanair only have to refund me for the London-Madrid leg?
There is no point in doing an exchange due to the fact that I return after the weekend and ALL saturday flights are now fully booked.
So if I cancel the flights out, I cant use the flights in. I would have thought that I was entitled to a refund on all tickets however:
1. Ryanair website only allows for autmatic refund on the outbound London-MAdrid leg that has already been cancelled; and
2. Easyjet will argue that my booking through them (Madrid-London) is unafiliated with the other travel plans that I had made and therefore no duty to pay.
I dont have travel insurance.
Any a straight forward advice on this one?
If I cant cancel the tickets (only the London-Madrid one) then I will have to buy an expensive flight out to avoid losing the money spent on the flight in.
Any answers are appreciated - I need to make a decision tonight!

I can't see any way you will be able to get a refund on any other leg of this trip I'm afraid. Budget airlines are careful to describe themselves as point-to-point and generally nothing can be done if you miss connections for a reason out of the airline's control and if you don't have insurance.0 -
As just been said on the BBC, the low cost airlines offer an A to B service and even when you book a 'return' flight you are actually booking 2 flights A to B and B to A. This way if you get stuck overseas or can't use the 'return' leg because the outbound leg was cancelled they dont have to offer you anything in the way of compensation i.e. paying for hotels etc.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I really think it's about time we all stopped using this rip off company.
We don't,you do,thats why they do it0 -
Why do people keep referring to them as a rip off company. They tell you up front what the charges are and what they do and dont cover so were is the rip off??????I really think it's about time we all stopped using this rip off company.

Also there are probably 000s of people who have gone to places they would never gone to but for the very cheap prices they offer.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

So the person on the BBC was talking cr*p? I don't think so. Also it is not their business model that is the issue it is the fact that they don't sell return flights they just allow you to book two single flights in one go.The LCCs are not exempt from the regulations just because of their business model, they are obliged to provide the 'right to care' which includes meals, refreshments and if necessary overnight accommodation.
In this particular situation, due to the direct cause of the cancellation, they are not obliged to offer the additional compensation in the regulation under articles 5 & 7.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

It's not a connecting flight even though they are run by the same airline. They will be quite happy to refund / change your cancelled flights. They'll do the same for the "return" flight but the onward flights are your own repsonsibility. Now if you talk nicely to Ryanair they might do something about those onward flights - but you'll need to phoen them, keep hanging on and be very very politeI booked two flights for tomorrow. There's an awful lot of rubbish being spouted here on MSE about compensation rights where people are including extracts totally out of context and without FULLY reading their rights.0

Ryanair have actually been really good to me with regards to cancelled flights. I had two on the same booking, to depart today and come back Sunday. Obviously nothing has been said about Sunday yet and today was cancelled.
I called up and was given a whole new return flight next week free of charge (with even better flight times that were more expensive!) and the guy was most helpful.
I thought I was screwed from the BBC website I was reading all day yesterday at work, because it said that if my return flight wasn't cancelled then I'd just lose it. But thankfully Ryanair have been great.0 -
theyve just put some flights up for saturday back home 400 quid
but it wont let me change without paying the difference from my 90 pound all in flights yet is says change for free[/QUOTE]
That's what I thought when I first looked at the flight details to change them - it says change for free in small writing underneath the amount it would normally cost to change - you just go in and change them and the fee comes up as zero.0 -

Was due to fly to Murcia from Birmingham today but flights cancelled do to Volcanic dust.
Ryanair said you can change your flight online FREE to the next available flight and I have been trying all day but the website just says an error has occurred please try again. So tried ringing on their 0871 10pence a minute rip off and it says we are very busy today but you can change flights on our website (which doesn't work) and the estimated waiting time for an operator to speak to you is 7 mins, 45 mins later still no answer so tried to get a refund on the website but that's not working either..
You know, I really dislike Ryanair myself and would rather fire myself out of a giant catapult in the direction I want to go than fly with them, to be honest, but I think calling them a "rip off" because you can't get through to them right now is a bit extreme.
I'm pretty sure you'll find that all the other airlines are struggling equally badly right now due to the exceptional and unusual circumstances at the moment. As much as I love to see the companies I dislike struggle, I really have to say this isn't anything that any one of them can be blamed for, both the incident itself (obviously) or being unable to cope with the unprecedented knock-on effects. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0
