When I was in the shop picking out my ring, the girl serving me asked if we were having a party. I was like, 'An egagement party?'. When she replied yes, I said (incredulously) that people don't have those any more.
A few of us do!We didn't have one just because we thought it was 'the done thing', and in fact I'd never been to an engagement party before so I know that they're rare. The reason we wanted one was that we both have quite scattered groups of friends who don't really know each other and some of whom we don't get to see often, and thought it would be a good opportunity for people to meet and have a bit of a boogie

I'm a bridezilla and my confession is
AAAGGGHHH! My H2B said the other day
"we'd better sit down and sort out the guest list again"
"what do you mean? We sat down and did it in December together"
"yeah but properly this time, there's some others I'd like to invite to the day, we'll have to add some on"
Okay, that probably doesn't sound so bad, does it? BUT !!!!!!?
The whole point of us sitting down and doing it in December was so we could pay the venue off in full (which we did), therefore avoiding the VAT increase. If we add ANYONE, the venue is going to have to apply the VAT increase retrospectively to the whole package costing us over £100 more before even paying for the extra people.
Why didn't he just do it properly in the first place?
What part of "we need to sit down and get the final figures together to pay off the venue in full" did he not get?:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

Oh, it wasn't a dig at people who do, it was more that I've never heard of anyone having one, not since my cousin got married 14 years ago.
As for weight, it's annoying me too. Since I got engaged (and we've not even thought about a date yet), there have been comments about me not eating so much rubbish so I can fit into a dress. I mean, please! I'm a size 6/8, I eat chocolate and snacks all the time and I can't put weight on to save my life! Why would I stop now?
I know it's a different thing people saying that to you if you're not skinny, but it is annoying to skinny people to :mad:0 -
I'm SOOO glad it's not just me! I get the "oooo will you be able to fit in your dress if you keep eating that" comments. !!!!!! off!!!! I'm not eating salad for the next 15 months and I don't think one creme egg is going to make one damn bit of difference when I run twice a week!
Those stories about people thinking you can't afford things had me in hysterics, so funny ladies!First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/140 -
Hello, newbie to this thread, but enjoying it!
Thought I would mention that I went to a engagement party years ago which had a gift list! I thought it was incredibly rude! Plus another for the wedding only a few months later (if my memory serves me correctly). I was the plus one, so I didn't actually buy anything, but I did think it was pretty strange to ask!0 -

I get you MissPixie, I also received RSVPs with menu choices and no names :grinheart It's Mrs Coupon now - saving and comping my way to a brighter future :grinheart0 -
I pre-empted the 'no names' scenario by writing the names on the cards for them. Mind you, I only did that to stop people bringing people I hadn't invited!Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0
