I am sat in costa trying not to laugh very, very loudly to the chicken fillet situation. Oh, oh, oh.

  • In the end my lovely DD (married 7th Jan) did ask me to do the chasing up of RSVP's and that made me very happy.
I also got to co-ordinate the gift list (at my suggestion) as I felt there may well be folk who needed a discussion about what to get down to financial considerations etc and would not feel happy doing so with Bride or groom .
That also worked well and I was able to assist a few people, indeed on the day I handed one present over to its giver as they had been unable to get to a John Lewis and the item in question went into the sale and thus could not be guaranteed on the list anymore. I saw this item, knew the happy couple particularly wanted 2 of them so I bought them on spec and had the added benefit of getting them at half price which seemed to please the person who ultimately had them off me.
I hate this current attitude of assuming you know better than your parents. I believe I sorted out quite a few things, including the wedding cake (don't worry I'd done courses on modern cake decs) and was really made up to have the chance to be that involved.
We oldies do know a thing or two you know.

Very true, but it can sometimes be a very difficult balancing act for both bride & groom and their parents to find what each other is happy to do, is able to do, and will take into account the fact that the couple have, generally speaking, not been dependant on their parents for quite some time prior to the wedding. It's quite hard to suddenly go back to asking parents for advice and help when you haven't done so in a long time! I'm quite lucky in that I trust my Mum on a lot of things so asking her for help with the wedding is not a large step away from what I normally would do. In contrast, when my Mum got married in the late 60s she found herself getting extremely annoyed with her mother who felt the need to take over a large part of the planning, even though my Mum had previously taken on a lot of responsibility very young, as the eldest child in a one parent family. Mum told me that she felt that suddenly, having been expected to behave like an adult for as long as she could remember, she wasn't trusted to make any decisions at all.

I think it's only right to include your parents in some way if they are willing, but also right that it's the couple who should be in charge of the proceedings.
I am a bridezilla because I don't like my BM telling me what to do all the time....!

I do not 'HAVE TO' wear a veil if I don't want to. "Ohhh but you haaaave to". No, really I don't, thanks very much.

With 7 months to go it is NOT a disaster that i havent designed the invites, or the table plan (!)

Tell her when she gets married she can wear a 20 foot veil if she wants to, but if she doesn't want to you won't give her a hard time over it. :D

Um, how is it possible to do a table plan without knowing who will be there???

Screamer it's a blummin' good job I'm on my own in the office today because I have just had a proper out-loud belly laugh at your post!!! :rotfl: What did she do when it hit her?

Hope you can figure out a way to find us a picture of the dress, I'm dying to see what caused the mayhem ;) Glad you're feeling happier about the Maggie situation - my dress is absolutely nothing like anything I would have picked prior to trying them on, but the styles that I loved in magazines just didn't look right on me. Think that's quite a common thing for brides when they see dresses "in the flesh".

What Sapphire said, especially about the table plan! I've known people who are still doing them the night before... (though you probably should be a bit more organised than this!! :D )

screamer - PMSL at the chicken fillet in the face story!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I'm so glad that you got your dress, yippee! :D I suspected that you might end up buying a non-Maggie Sottero dress. I'm the same as Roz_V - the dresses that I loved in mags/blogs usually didn't suit me, or weren't as nice in real life. :)

I would love it if my mum wanted to be more involved in the planning, but she doesn't seem to want to! :rotfl:

Having said that, she has lent me her beautiful pearl earrings and bracelet for the wedding, they are amazing x

  • Not sure it's bridezilla because I feel totally justified in being upset lol.

I burnt myself yesterday on my hair straighteners. Got really annoyed/ upset because its on the finger right next to my ring finger. It's not a little burn either, its about 2 inches long and does not look pretty. The wedding is 2 1/2 months away and I was going in a big strop that it will be in my wedding photos when showing off my new ring :(. How dare it be burnt so close to the wedding, and no seems to understand why i'm so gutted.

Lots of bio oil leading up to the wedding I think

I've been loving this thread for the last few months but have refrained from fessing up myself, so here goes....

I want to organise the little details now! Like how I want the BM's hair, who's going to be looking after my keys and fags when I leave my house and other little things that I don't really need to worry about just now!

My OH's daughter (BM) has had a permanent red streak put in the front of her blonde hair! She better get rid of that by the wedding! She looks like the reverse of Ginger Spice and she's only 8!!

I'm gonna have the BM's & PB's leaving from my house and have already warned them that I will be hiding any coloured drinks and if anyone dares to bring a drink near me will regret it!

I'm terrified I'm gonna get a migraine, the runs, or something equally as debilitating! My sister will have a handbag full of medicines just in case.

I will be mortified if anyone messes about with my balloon centrepieces. I'm considering getting each child attending there own personalised balloon so that they leave mine alone!

I shall be waiting for the point in the evening do when my OH's ex gets drunk and flirty with him. I shall be politely telling her to p!ss off, at least I managed to get him down the aisle!

Wow, now I've written them down I sound slightly crazy!
