hi screamer, i know what you mean, picked my dress yesterday and felt up and down all day, you should settle down tomorrow.
rotfl about chicken fillets smacking forehead sorry can't stop laughing :rotfl:.
my family have two surnames due to adoption of granddad, panicked as gave one name and suddenly thought, doh! the registrar is used to it, i'm sure it would be boring if everything went perfectly. these are the bits you'll remember, and that make your wedding and planning special to you.
thanks for giving me such a great laugh! looking forward to seeing your dress."We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough

Today has been a very strange day. I've spent half of today with a huge grin on my face and the other half sat in a quiet corner crying my eyes out. My brain doesn't seem to want to work right today so I've been getting upset over nothing. It seems I lied yesterday though, I will get married in something that doesn't say Maggie Sottero in it. I bought my dress this morning and I couldn't be happier. I've tried finding a picture online for you but can't find it by style number so my guess is it isn't a famous designer. I did go to look at some Maggie dresses in the flesh and aswell as being totally underwhelmed with them, I hurt my pigging shoulder picking one up. Definately not a good sign so Maggie has gone straight out of my head and I'm not grieving for her at all lol. I will try to get a photo for you but OH is the camera operator and obviously he isn't going anywhere near it. The dress is going up to the in laws in a couple of days because we've got a cat and dog and I smoke. I really don't want any stenches or kitty and pooch fur anywhere near my princess dress.
Which poster was nervous about going dress shopping? I was wearing manky knickers, a bra that would fetch a fortune on ebay if I described it as "Well Used!" (it's thanks to MSE's ebay board that I'm aware of people who would want such things btw, blame them) and some nasty chicken fillets that wouldn't stay put. I was sweating like a pig in a blanket, my hair was wet through because I'd had a bath not long before and I was coughing my lungs up every 5 minutes because I hadn't stopped all morning and didn't have my inhaler handy. I had managed to hide the knickers which are probably older than my nephews but there was absolutely no hiding the chicken fillets because I whipped my bra off really quick, one went flying and slapped the sales assistant quite hard on the forehead.. I think providing you don't wear chicken fillets when you go dress shopping, nothing could get as humiliating as that (I'll admit, the "Slap"sound it made when it came into contact with said forehead cracked me up, I burst out laughing!)
Have done the notice of intent to marry today. OH couldn't remember his dad's name. D'OH! (and no, I'm not joking, I still don't know if it's right on the papers the registrar filled in.)
ETA, the dress is made by The House of Nicholas and is part of the Sapphire Collection. Still can't find any pictures though I'm afraid :-(
Im so glad you had a good experience dress shopping.
:rotfl: at the chicken fillets- that has really made me smile!!:D0 -

TBH I wouldn't leave it as late as six weeks before sending the invites, although I know that's the traditional timescale - mine will be more like 16 weeks! Most people need time to organise transport and accommodation, as both families are spread all over the country, and a few further afield still.
Good point. I wasn't having a go, just pointing out that people may not know yet. However, as it's abroad then I totally understand needing numbers at this point!0 -
well done on finding the dress screamer!!0

Hi,
Knew you wasen;t having a go & thanks White Sapphire for explaining. A lot of the availability has gone for the apartments & prices have gone up lots which is why we gave peple so much notice so they could get it cheap. Never mind.Married the man of my dreams - 10th September 2012, St Paul's Bay Lindos :jIt was amazing.0 -

A (recently married) friend of mine made a valid point: she said in the 'olden days' a bride's parents took care of all the RSVPs, keeping such stresses away from the bride. These days, of course, we do everything. :rotfl:This of course is because you want to.
I'm sure there are many mothers of the bride like me who had to just grin and bear it at the feeling of being excluded from the preparations.
She suggested tasking someone I trust – who's not afraid to be vocal – to take on the RSVPs. So I've given this job to my feisty-but-polite sister, who, once the RSVP deadline has passed, will be on the phone chasing up anyone who hasn't pulled their finger out. It's a real weight off my mind – I'd recommend it!
In the end my lovely DD (married 7th Jan) did ask me to do the chasing up of RSVP's and that made me very happy.
I also got to co-ordinate the gift list (at my suggestion) as I felt there may well be folk who needed a discussion about what to get down to financial considerations etc and would not feel happy doing so with Bride or groom .
That also worked well and I was able to assist a few people, indeed on the day I handed one present over to its giver as they had been unable to get to a John Lewis and the item in question went into the sale and thus could not be guaranteed on the list anymore. I saw this item, knew the happy couple particularly wanted 2 of them so I bought them on spec and had the added benefit of getting them at half price which seemed to please the person who ultimately had them off me.
I hate this current attitude of assuming you know better than your parents. I believe I sorted out quite a few things, including the wedding cake (don't worry I'd done courses on modern cake decs) and was really made up to have the chance to be that involved.
We oldies do know a thing or two you know.

I am a bridezilla because I don't like my BM telling me what to do all the time....!
I do not 'HAVE TO' wear a veil if I don't want to. "Ohhh but you haaaave to". No, really I don't, thanks very much.
With 7 months to go it is NOT a disaster that i havent designed the invites, or the table plan (!)0 -
Hi flossy, just to say – I wasn't implying that parents can't be trusted to do what they've traditionally done in the past. My original comment was a reflection of my own circumstances. (My mum passed away ten years ago, but if she was around now I'd have loved to have her input, believe me.)flossy_splodge wrote: »I hate this current attitude of assuming you know better than your parents.
