  • A (recently married) friend of mine made a valid point: she said in the 'olden days' a bride's parents took care of all the RSVPs, keeping such stresses away from the bride. These days, of course, we do everything. :rotfl:

She suggested tasking someone I trust – who's not afraid to be vocal – to take on the RSVPs. So I've given this job to my feisty-but-polite sister, who, once the RSVP deadline has passed, will be on the phone chasing up anyone who hasn't pulled their finger out. It's a real weight off my mind – I'd recommend it!

Oh, I hope I don't have to chase too many RSVPs when my time comes! I will feel too embarrassed to be calling people about it, but annoyed that they haven't replied at the same time!

I've had to chase some of ours & we still haven't had answers off some. H2B brother said he was coming & would come over & get us to help him choose accommodation that was in Sept:mad: Most of my side have been good & said yes or no but H2B lot have given us no indication & it's driving me mad. I feel so sorry for him that they are dragging there feet.

I'll be doing this too! My sister has already offered her help in this respect, and it will be quite funny as we sound almost identical on the phone; cue some very confused relatives! :rotfl:

I wish I had thought of asking my sisters. They are both quite scarey! I'm chasing people who have initially said yes but who haven't returned menu choices. They are all long term friends so I am really, really annoyed.

it's still quite early though - i thought invitations normally went out around 6 weeks before?

I am so so sick of other people expecting me to organise them... the guests are more hassle than organising the wedding!!!

Fawny's getting married abroad though and needs to get all guest info sorted a lot sooner than usual, so is doing invites early. TBH I wouldn't leave it as late as six weeks before sending the invites, although I know that's the traditional timescale - mine will be more like 16 weeks! Most people need time to organise transport and accommodation, as both families are spread all over the country, and a few further afield still.

I think very few people now do the traditional 6 weeks before .... we did 5 1/2 months before firstly because we have family coming from all over the world, secondly as our venue want choices by March and thirdly to save on postage (we were seeing lots of family over Xmas)!

Today has been a very strange day. I've spent half of today with a huge grin on my face and the other half sat in a quiet corner crying my eyes out. My brain doesn't seem to want to work right today so I've been getting upset over nothing. It seems I lied yesterday though, I will get married in something that doesn't say Maggie Sottero in it. I bought my dress this morning and I couldn't be happier. I've tried finding a picture online for you but can't find it by style number so my guess is it isn't a famous designer. I did go to look at some Maggie dresses in the flesh and aswell as being totally underwhelmed with them, I hurt my pigging shoulder picking one up. Definately not a good sign so Maggie has gone straight out of my head and I'm not grieving for her at all lol. I will try to get a photo for you but OH is the camera operator and obviously he isn't going anywhere near it. The dress is going up to the in laws in a couple of days because we've got a cat and dog and I smoke. I really don't want any stenches or kitty and pooch fur anywhere near my princess dress.

Which poster was nervous about going dress shopping? I was wearing manky knickers, a bra that would fetch a fortune on ebay if I described it as "Well Used!" (it's thanks to MSE's ebay board that I'm aware of people who would want such things btw, blame them) and some nasty chicken fillets that wouldn't stay put. I was sweating like a pig in a blanket, my hair was wet through because I'd had a bath not long before and I was coughing my lungs up every 5 minutes because I hadn't stopped all morning and didn't have my inhaler handy. I had managed to hide the knickers which are probably older than my nephews but there was absolutely no hiding the chicken fillets because I whipped my bra off really quick, one went flying and slapped the sales assistant quite hard on the forehead.. I think providing you don't wear chicken fillets when you go dress shopping, nothing could get as humiliating as that (I'll admit, the "Slap"sound it made when it came into contact with said forehead cracked me up, I burst out laughing!)

Have done the notice of intent to marry today. OH couldn't remember his dad's name. D'OH! (and no, I'm not joking, I still don't know if it's right on the papers the registrar filled in.)

ETA, the dress is made by The House of Nicholas and is part of the Sapphire Collection. Still can't find any pictures though I'm afraid :-(
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)
