Hello ladies. I'm a bridezilla and my confession is.... I flatly refuse to get married in anything that doesn't have the label "Maggie Sottero" in it even though I can't afford a new one and can't get my hands on a used one!

Actually, the problem is I can't get out and about and get to dress shops like most people can, and I've got no one to go with me anyway. My fiance is my lifeline and this is one job I can't do with him in tow but I don't leave the house alone for a number of reasons. I can't drive, I don't know the area very well, I have no friends or family here and to be honest the thought of going shopping alone for my wedding dress makes me cry. I'm looking on ebay but I can't return anything if it doesn't fit and as for preloved, they're all miles away which gets back to my initial problem, not being able to get out and about. I'm spending all day every day looking for nice dresses that are within an affordable taxi ride from me and I'm failing miserably. And the Maggie obsession, that's because I've spent 2 years looking for dresses and Maggie's are the only ones that makes my tummy flip. They are sooooo gorgeous and many others just don't compare. Loads of cheap second hand ones out there, but I can't get to them :-(

Sigh, I thought this would be the easy part!

i picked a maggie and they are amazing. what i would do is ask your oh to drop you off, send him for a cup of tea or the food shop, and ask him to come back in an hour!:rotfl:
i went shopping with my mum a couple of times and didnt find anything, then i went to about 10 shops on my own...bit fussy!... and found it easier, as i knew straight away when i didn't like something! an added bonus to going on your own is every person at the wedding will get the big surprise when you walk in! :)
  • I've until now refused to turn into a Bridezilla, but I think my MIL2B is determined to make me one!

She phoned this evening 'just to double check we have a photographer and video-grapher booked'. We have photographer sorted and have done for months, and no video-grapher as I think they are too expensive, and I just don't want one.
The reason for this is I have bad teeth due to a severe phobia of the dentist (slowly getting over it but still hate my teeth), and am putting up with a photographer (he's an old friend and I trust him to do a good job), but there's no way I'm having a video camera following me about all day.

Anyway, MIL2B says they will pay for video-grapher. OH comes off the phone, and tells me this. When I explain what video-grapher's cost and why I don't want one, all he says is 'But my mum wants it video'd!). I DON'T CARE, IT'S MY WEDDING AND I DON'T WANT IT FILMED! If they want to pay for something, I'd much rather they used that money to go towards the reception.

So I'm hoping and praying she won't find someone, as it's just over 4 months til the big day, so most will prob be booked up!

Bride2be, you poor hunni. My teeth are awful also thanks to a severe phobia of the dentist so I'm with you there. I keep practising my smile in the bathroom mirror and the image looking back isn't very pretty. I want a nice dress to take the attention away from my face lol.

As for the offers of company, I'm hoping I won't need it. We only decided to get married a week before christmas and we've already got so much sorted. I've contacted about 10 different people in the past few days and at least 2 are looking promising. I just need to see them. We've got to go to the venue tomorrow and I found a Maggie stockist about 8 miles away from that so hopefully tomorrow I can see them in the flesh, find out what size I need and which style I like the most then scour ebay and preloved for cheaper ones. It helps if I'm able to see the dress. OH isn't looking forward to it but I'll bet he wants support when he goes for his suit lol.

I did have my eye on Selma, SaBelle and Victoriana. I've just got some photos of Selma and I hate the train. SaBelle seems to be out of my price range even for second hand ones (I did find one in my size on preloved but it didn't have the straps and for my shoulders and chest I'd need straps. I've got rugby players shoulders lol) but Victoriana seems to be a bit cheaper and a bit more common. There's 2 for sale on ebay at the moment, I've struck out with one but the other is still looking good for now. If I can't find either dress tomorrow I may be calling on you for help lol.

Thanks for understanding ladies, you're all so sweet! I'll let you know tomorrow what's happening.
Yaaay, I finally conned a man into making a honest woman of me. Even more shocking is that I can put the words "Happily" and "Married" into the same sentence and not have life insurance on my mind when I say it ;-)

  • screamer, you make me feel sane now! I am like you my fiance is the only person i do things with, i do go to work but not formed any real connections yet since moving to the area 3 yrs ago. I absolutly dreed dress shopping as id love to pop into shops but dont have confidence to do it alone and i know that by time mum or mil2b visits i will miss some offers that are running.

ps my oh is going mad at me for ever mentioning how bad my teeth are and my concerns- his only response is im not a dentist lol
A big thank you to all those who post on the forum and make it a worthwhile place!!!:j

I'm thinking of getting mine whitened too! Properly, by a dentist. Is it harmful?

  • lol, I think whitening is the least of my worries. I should've had a brace fitted as a teenager but never did as I was too scared to go to the appointments. So I have two teeth that stick out, one either side of the two front teeth, if that makes sense. Then I had a problem with one of my top baby teeth, it refused to fall out! So the adult tooth came in on the inside of it. I had the baby tooth extracted (at the age of 25 lol!) but the adult tooth sits way in, so unless you are stood right next to me it looks like I have a tooth missing. Would love to get them fixed cosmetically, but I'm looking at a bill of around 5-6k for private treatment - not very MSE!!

You shouldn't have to. It's not too much to expect normal courtesy from the people you're inviting.
