My Mum is desperately wanting us to have a traditional wedding cake. Thing is though neither I or H2B like fruit cake or icing and had our hearts set on a cheesecake.:o
I'm sort of thinking of getting a traditonal cake to please her, and plus I know it'll look nicer.
But its our wedding!

couldnt you get a 2 tier traditional wedding cake and then have a cheesecake on the top instead of a third tier
yumThe only people I have to answer to are my beautiful babies aged 8 and 50 -

Do what you want to do. Be brave.
I have had a few 'out there' ideas with the cake and have had a few raised eyebrows.
I don't like fruit cake either so I'm not having any fruit cake. It's a lot of money to be paying to just please other people.
Decide if you and your partner would want a traditional style cake to cut (even if it is a prop just for pictures) or if you would prefer to have cheesecake and stick with that decision.0 -
It seems that all weddings succeed in upsetting the mothers and us brides just have to accept that! Mine has just about got over the idea of me marrying at a zoo, she still openly hates the idea that we're having live music at the wedding and has even suggested she won't be there in the evening if it gets loud. She shows no enthusisam for my wedding and NEVER asks me how it's going - we live 250 miles away and she isn't involved in planning at all but when I have tried to engage her in any discussions about it she just doesn't seem to care.
MIL2B has been mostly OK but when she saw the invites the other day (which were done on the cheap via Vistaprint but are purple to fit our theme), all she could say was 'purple, your dad always hated purple'
I've decided they can just go ahead and be grumpy old women. I did my wedding first time round to keep a lot of other people happy - this time it's our day, we're paying for it, we're doing what we want.
Oh and I think you should go with cheesecake if that's what you want - we're doing 3 tiers of fruit cake, vanilla sponge and choc sponge but all in white icing and my mum thinks it should all be fruit. If you don't like the cake OR the icing why have 2 or 3 tiers of something you won't eat. I think the idea of a cheesecake on one tier is a lovely compromise (though I'd also be tempted to do full cheesecake out of spite :rotfl:)0 -

I think it is the mothers that cause most the stress! I've not had too much of a problem with my Mum but the MIL is a little different.
I'm laid back and understand however much planning I do there is a chance that things go wrong or not to plan and the day may not be 'perfect'.
So I am not too bothered about things like flowers, hair, make up, cakes etc etc. they are all the things I see as extra to the marriage. When I mention this, immediate stress and worry spreads across her face.
Am looking forward to telling her my flower choices..very minimal.. no corsages..:rotfl:0 -
Oh, mothers... Mine had major beef with the fact that OH and I are inviting friends she hasn't met, until I patiently explained that obviously we have our own circle of friends who she won't have met before, and we want them there! She's OK with it now, fortunately!
Omg I think I just had my first "proper" bridezilla moment... OH invited a friend to our evening do without running it past me first - why is this annoying me? I would have OK'd it anyway! *is possibly a bit nuts*:j Married my lovely man on 29th June 2013 :j0 -
I've just put my foot down. OH was googling harpists to get a quote for someone to play during the reception. Not only would someone playing a harp not fit in AT ALL with our venue or with us really, I don't know who he thinks would pay for it anyway.0
