Thank you, RAS. You're right about the 'nice girls'. My mother was one, which is how I came to be born in 1935!! I've heard the 'nice girls' saying 'but he promised me he'd be careful...' 'Being careful' was the euphemism for coitus interruptus, a notoriously unreliable method of contraception!
Don't discount condoms - they do protect the girl's immature and developing cervix, and they protect against STDs e.g. chlamydia. All the buses where I live carry ads warning about chlamydia. Condoms can be just as good a method of contraception, in fact they were the only method until the Pill, and they did work well.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Sperm swim at a rate of about an inch an hour. The journey from the cervix to the fallopian tube is about 6-8inches. So the soonest conception can take place is 6-8hours after the intercourse (or introduction of sperm to the cervix area).
Sperm can live for upto 7 days within a womans body if there is the correct cervical mucus.
Implantation can be a further week after conception (and cleavage).
Unless you know a man.....faster than a speeding bullet... Super Spermatozoa to the rescue! Do you get blue capes that small I wonder?0 -

I said it can start very soon after intercourse not when it can finish!Sperm swim at a rate of about an inch an hour. The journey from the cervix to the fallopian tube is about 6-8inches. As you yourself say sperm can live for several days and so may be already in the fallopian tube when the egg is released meaning conception can be quicker.
Sorry have not come across the term cleavage.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Condoms also protect against HPV which is responsible for cervical cancer, I would always recommend that every couple uses both a condom (for STDs) and a hormonal/more permanent method (for pregnancy) at least until they have both been for sexual health screening if not beyond that.0 -
Ermmm... is the point of conception really a point that needs to be debated on this thread?
If you wish to continue, I think it would be better to start a new thread on the subject.February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I took the MAP years ago when OH and I first got together. The shock for me when taking it was how ill it made me feel - I felt really sick for about 24 hours. I understand this is normal, and as this was 24 years ago things may have changed, but would be good for your DS's girlfriend to be aware.
And the relief she feels next month when her period starts will be worth all the embarrassment0 -
If I was this girl's mum and I found out about this, I would be absolutely furious that another parent had been helping (or pushing!) my daughter to take the MAP, especially when she was uncomfortable about it.0

I wouldn't care. At least my son wouldn't have been lumbered with a kid at 15 year old.0 -

I'd probably be grateful that even though she felt she couldn't come to me with this problem, someone else had helped her make a sensible choice. Then I'd start tackling the reasons why she couldn't come to me in the first place.
I first went on the pill when I was 15. I sat my mum down and told her before I went to the doctors because I was completely comfortable talking about it with her and didn't want her to think I wasn't if she saw the packets lying around!0 -
