I don't believe we know the age of the girl?

If she is 16, tell her she could be in trouble for having sex with a minor!!!!!!!!

she can take the morning after pill upto 72 hrs after sex or have the coil fitted upto 5 days after.

chances of being pregnant depend on where in her cycle she was when they had sex if she as a 28day cycle then she would ovulate around day 14 but wouldnt use this a guide not to seek treatment.

perhaps they need to consider the pill, injection, patch, implant for his girlfriend as well as using condoms.

It isn't only Catholics who are against the MAP. As it acts after conception that makes it an abortifacient if you take life as starting at conception. The whole it isn't a pregnancy until implantation is a fairly recent belief and makes things such as embryo research up to 14 days less contentious.

Only if conception has actually taken place, otherwise it acts as a preventative.

Anyone who would put the wellbeing of a bundle of unimplanted cells above that of a pair of 15 year olds probably doesn't have anything useful to add to this thread.

Lots of things are 'recent beliefs', this occurs because our knowledge grows over time as those clever science people keep finding out new stuff!

Where did I say that I put the wellbeing of the unborn child above that of the two children involved? I was merely pointing out what people often believe about the MAP, how someone else responds is entirely up to them. I just wish that people were better informed before they made a decision.

True but as no-one will ever know if she had concived or not this is not very helpful.

Neither was your post. It doesn't only act after conception.

It can act in 3 ways, delaying ovulation, inhibiting ovulation and irritating the uterus lining. Only 1 of those ways involves a fertilised egg (conception).

Basically, similar to the hormonal pill.

Therefore it is only 'abortive' if conception has taken place. Given that conception doesn't happen immediately after intercourse, if taken quickly it is more likely to act as a preventative than abortive.

Next time you try to inform people, make sure your facts are correct.

Actually conception starts as soon as the egg and sperm meet which depending on when the egg was released may be very soon after intercourse. The point I repeat though is that we can never know what stage we are at and therefore if someone believes life begins at conception taking the MAP or certain types of contraceptive would not be something they would do.

Thanks for the biology lesson :T How soon is 'very soon'?

And debating the ethics of the MAP when there are two young people facing an accidental pregnancy is very helpful.

Oh, that'll be up to a week after ;)
I wouldn't call that abortive myself.

I hope everything has gone okay and the girl has managed to pluck up the courage to go to the family planning clinic.

Playing devil's advocate here though, it's a bit unfair to lay all this on the girl or to call her stupid or say she's ruining the lad's life if she saddles him with a baby. I'm guessing the lad willingly had sex with the girl therefore IF she is pregnant he's as much to blame as her.

I think the lad should go along to the clinic with her, if he's old enough to have sex he's also old enough to face the consequences and they BOTH need advice on contraception and the correct way to use it otherwise they may find themselves in the same position again.

I wasn't the one who started the whole debate but merely answered questions others raised.

Actually conception can start minutes after intercourse or up to a few days, hardly a week!

Actually I would advocate abstinence as the best solution to the possibility of children finding themselves in this situation
