  • Only problem is that when you click for further details, it has a condition of putting in £1000 per month. Is there a way of getting away with not paying salary in but still getting the £25? Or am I being daft?

It seems there's loads of these special promo webpages telling you about the offer .. then you click the "apply" link and you end up with a description of the account without the promo offer.

To be on the safe side, if there's a question in the online application form that asks for promotion code, it seems all sorts of promo codes beginning "CA" work. Isasmurf's is CA170. I was quoted CA154.
  • Greedy Bank they got very suspicious when I phoned. So, as you can guess I couldn't sign-up over the phone, but they are going to send me form and stuff.

I gave them all my details including phone number. Wish I hadn't, although I might try again tomorrow and give alternative details.

Then I thought I wish I had the newspaper with the add in it and maybe quote something from it. Then I had a brain wave. I remembered my library card and that with it you can get OnLine Borrower Services for free.

All you have to do is, if you haven't got a card then I suggest you go down to your local library and get one. Well they are free after all.

I'm with Richmond, Surry Library so I don't know how it will work for other areas. Anyway, here goes:

    1. go to richmond.gov.uk/libraries or whatever area you are in

    2. click on Borrower Services

    3. enter your borrower/card number and pin (library should give you a pin number so you can log on to their computers. Borrower sevices is free for downloading for use at home as well)

    4. click on search

    5. scroll down the page with personal info on and at the bottom click on NewsUK

    6. at NewsUK home page click on View Newspaper Issue then at the next page pick the appropriate paper

    7. phone deal of the week and qoute something randomly to prove you have got the newspaper. Although, it would help if there was a page number and maybe the first letter of an article so that there's no copyright breach in MSE moneytips. Articles at NewsUK are in alphabetical order.

I hope this isn't to complicated, but what the heck it's worth a shot.

    Give it a go.

Good luck and go screw the Bank.

Who says you have to purchase a paper?

I'll give that a try then. Thank you for your help.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair, I mean, it's *their* special offer, they're entitled to want to make sure it's being used as they intended, no? Not that banks in general don't make lots of money, and I'm all for getting whatever you can out of them etc, but meh, you're not entitled to the free money! I'm just seeing it as a chance of a nice bonus, but if I don't get it, I'm happy - I'll be damn careful to make sure I don't sign up to anything I don't want, ie their rubbish account as my main current.

I received an application pack today, and the terms and conditions are effective from 21 Feb05. Have they changed the conditions to close the free money loophole I wonder? does anyone know?

  • Just applied for the same offer online

It clearly gives the option to pay in your salary or not, plus you get a credit card which gives 0% for 6 months on balance transfers

    Hi,

I phoned yesterday evening after reading the newsletter and asked the man at the other end if the offer in the times was still live " as I had only just got round to reading my paper" he asked if I read it on a website I didn't lie :D all I said "was what website was that and should I go through that".After asking if I had coupon "what coupon it is in the paper?" he promised to send me an application.....I will let you know if the Terms/conditions have changed.
