I was just about to take advanatge of Martin's tip and but first went through my post that had accumulated over two days- there was a marketing letter from First Direct offering £35 instead of the £25.
So I rang them to apply for the account and they went through credit checks etc and took details. It took about 10 minutes and they were very keen for me to change my existing current account over (unsuccessfully of course). They then tried to sell me other products but I said I wanted to see the current account working first.
I asked about the £35 and was assured that this would be paid to me within 28 days of my £100 deposit as long as that was credited before 30 April 2005. They are now sending out the new customer pack.
My only regret was not to have sent in the form they attached to the letter as it would have saved time - still, that's another £35 for my wife now.
NB- Also had another letter from Capital One offering 18 (!!) months 0% interest on their credit card- can't see this anywhere on the net but needless to say I applied.0 -
Hi All, First Post On Here.
I've just rang the Freephone number and quoted the code. I was told that they would send me a form to sign in the post, and ,when the account was open, if I deposited £100 I would be credited with the extra £25.
This was probably easier for me because First Direct already had my details from an application I made last year (Didn't follow it through), but the whole thing took me 60 seconds on the phone. Time well spent I think !!!!!0 -
I have just phoned up and they are sending me the pack to apply. The lady I spoke to was insulting about Martin, saying he's caused so much trouble and has been insulting about them. I told her its their advertising thats caused the problem. If anyone moans at you don't let them get away with it.

NB: That's the existing customer services line, not the new customer line.0 -

I was going to point this out yesterday. I really cant bring myself to feel sorry for first direct being taken advantage of. After all, this is the second time they have messed up!0
