You cant get something for nothing (not quite) - they will make you wait a bit for the cash!0

£100 reached my account on 2nd March and on 7th March they credited me with the £35 'joining incentive', so 5 days max for me!!0

I could keep the account but then that would leave me with three current accounts & I was of the understanding that this could impact my credit rating0

...Back on the staff, your point about 'who would not want the offer?' is fair - and I dont understand why my friends or family couldnt be bothered, perhaps we are just a bit obsessed here. I see it that everybody wants my money all the time, and I want some back when I see a chance. The call-centre staff should be angry at their bosses not abrupt with customers. So far I have found them to be great (as I said I might even use the account, they have been so good).
If you write to customer services and explain that the refusal was in error (if it was 18 months) then they should extend the offer to you...
...Have you got your credit file sorted, and that late charge note removed - otherwise you will continue to have grief!
 Good luck - HTH
i might give a chance to redeem themselves by sending them an email asking them to include my account in the promotion and to give a complaint about their staff attitudes to new customers. it's almost becomin too much hassle for the £25 though.
I've had a completely clean credit record ever since sorting out that one, telewest eventually removed it completely after about 3 months and many emails to them and experian. i dont see why i should have to do the credit check for them though, surely they do one for all their new customers anyway, and the copy i did have would now be approx a year out of date.0

Applying involves a credit score - but I dont think holding an account has any impact if you run it well - and as a current account customer, first direct may be more inclined to give you favourable terms0

I would email them and get them to sort things out out of principal - the £25 will be a bonus.
On the credit file - you wont be 'doing a credit check for them', you would be doing yourself a favour by ensuring you wont have any problems in the future!0

dear dan I am new to the chat forum, I wanted to ask, I opened a First Direct current account & got £25 (great). But I have just received three member get member referal cards. Basically if I refer someone & they open an account & put £100 in it they get £25 and so do I for refering them. I still have my FD account but it only has £1.47 in it and have never had to pay my wages into it. Would it be against MSE policy if I tried to introduce anybody from this site. Many Thank Steven0

It's not just the Times advert that gives you the £25 cashback. I have seen similar with Amazon purchases & also with BMW Magazine (the route that I used).0
