Hi
Just phoned First Direct to open an account and quoted HC188.
The operator said that the offer was closed at 5pm today.
They said they could offer me another code which would give mt the £25 if I transferred all my banking to them.
I obviously declined
Pity

Just tried for the 25 quid and they said that they had closed the offer today at 5pm. Can they do that and what can I do ?0

GAME OVER!!!
Update 10 March 2005. I received an e-mail today from First Direct telling me it would no longer accept the terms of the offer as advertised in the Times a couple of weeks ago. You will now have to pay your salary in to get the £25 which means it is no longer worth doing.
To quote it “First Direct will make it clear to any future applicants who quote old codes, that the offer is no longer available though we will gladly welcome them with £25 should they mandate their salary.
To be clear, first direct will only pay £25 to applicants quoting old press advert promotional codes (relating to the previous offer of £25 upon receipt of a £100 credit) if they choose to comply with our current promotional terms which include mandating salary.”Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

So if you made the call and quoted the code before the deadline you qualify?. I posted my forms back on Tuesday (the 8th of March) So I am OK?0

If anyone finds they have missed out, PM me as I have some postcards offering £25 when you join and deposit £100. No need to pay in salary (further details on referrers board)I can offer no resistance, I can offer no respite

First direct just phoned my work number to tell me the account is opened and I checked that the £25 offer still applied. They told me if they accepted the code on the phone when I first called then yes. They did say I had to pay the £100 in by the end of march. I hope the confirmation comes soon, I will have to pay that £100 in quick!0 -
I telephoned them on mon 7th March, and the man quite happily took the code, I have since received the forms, but as mentioned on previous threads, there is no code mentioned on the application form and I'm not keen on providing all my bank details, mortgage balance etc, through the post. Why would they need this to open a 2nd account?? I know they really want you to move completely to them,(hence the change of promotion as of the 10th march), but when a few of us have mentioned that we want the account as a second account, I'm not keen on them knowing my bank details!!
I'm not sure whether I want to go ahead now, again, mentioned in previous threads, due to security, but then maybe, if I wait, they may contact me again, with an offer of £35..........or maybe not!!
Will keep my eye on this site for any furthur info.
Thanks Martin, for providing great tips, and thankyou to all posters, for providing sound advice. :jif you cant have what you want, be grateful for what you have :T
Pickle number 3 arrived 24th december 2007 :A0 -
I was worried about the security, so I just omitted to send the ID. I checked this would be OK on the phone as somebody here helpfully suggested and there were no problems.
Banks always want to know your mortgage/other banks when they give you an overdraft facility.
Finally, you do not have to put the code on the form, it is entered against your details when you request the form (as far as I know)0 -
Sounds like a case for the advertising standards agency. They should not be allowed to pull stunts like that and cut the offer short, with no t+c in their ad to allow them. I would imagine they are covered somehow, but it must be a clever little loophole, or they are breaking the law!0

Yes, Martin seemed pretty sure they had to honour the advert for three months, then it seems the conditions changed - so I guess they found a way.0
