steveb1967 wrote:dear dan I am new to the chat forum, I wanted to ask, I opened a First Direct current account & got £25 (great). But I have just received three member get member referal cards. Basically if I refer someone & they open an account & put £100 in it they get £25 and so do I for refering them. I still have my FD account but it only has £1.47 in it and have never had to pay my wages into it. Would it be against MSE policy if I tried to introduce anybody from this site. Many Thank Steven
I think it is fine, but you would have to use the referrals board. People have been doing this with INGdirect and it has all been above board.
You might get takers on this as the standard offer has dried up if you dont mandate your salary, but only if your card offer does not require this!0 -
I don't think I'm going to bother seeing this application through.
Sent off the form, they then phoned my uni to check I was actually a student with them. The university refused to give this info over the phone, and wants written permission from me before disclosing the info.
Is it true there's a deadline for paying in the £100? If so, I doubt I'll end up sorting this out before then.0 -
I took up their offer of depositing £100 and got my £25 but a week after I got another mailshot saying that as I had'nt taken up their first offer they were going to increase the incentive to £35 ! (I should have waited another week). My account is all up and running and I have say that First Direct are first class in all areas so far and then this week to further tempt me to pay in my salary on top of the initial £100 they are going to give me another £25. So all in all £50 for opening an account and if I had delayed taking them up on their first offer I would have got £60 with very few strings !! Well worth it0

I'm with HSBC too, you just set up a one off standing order (which you can do online), all you need is the account number and sort codeA cynic is a man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.0 -

I was sent info from First Direct offering me £35. As long as i put in £100 before end of march, salary doesnt have to be paid for this offer i have just checked. They did send a lot of literature re credit cards etc promptly.
Me too. you are absolutely correct, i've sent off the form and am awaiting reply. £35 for opening the account with £100, no salary needs to go in, read through all the mailing literature....
sometimes it is beneficial getting junk mail afterall.
I wonder if it is worth people ringing them up stating that you'v made a mess of the application form, please could you send a new one, ensuring it is for the £35 offer for which you have the rest of the documentation for 0800 242424 ......good luck and be quick offer closes end March 050 -
I've just been on the phone to First Direct on a virtually unrelated subject, and while on the line I enquired about my new current account which I've just opened through the Times offer (code HC188 logged over the phone when applying, double checked that no salary transfer was required, account now activated, £100 on its way in at the mo, £25 expected back from FD soon).
The man on the phone today stated that "the offer expired on 15th March" and that I would not be getting the £25! However after I read the wording of the advert back to him he said he would be putting a note on my account to ensure that the £25 went through as it should.
So in short, I urge other £25-grabbers to double check with FD that the £25 is on its way.Operation Get in Shape

Where in the ad does the offer say it expires on 15th March? They are cruising for a bruising here.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

I had a form sent to b4 15th March that I haven't sent back yet, I rang them up and they said the offer has gone but I can still get the £25 as I already had been sent the form. They also said I've got 3 months to put the £100 in.0

I found it easiest to use the cash machine for my bank, walk three steps and pay the cash in at HSBC - then its there immediately - the web transfer will take four days. The marvels of modern technology0
