Has anyone closed their FD current account after receiving the joining incentive or does it need to stay open (for whatever reason!) for at least 3 months?
  • Yes to the first part, transferred the account balance to my usual bank's current account the day after the £25 was deposited. Sent FD a secure message requesting account closure. Reply received from them advising my request will be carried out. They also, I think, need confirmation that any cards relating to the account have been destroyed.

Why not give them a try?

Best UK bank by a long long way.

You may wish to close yuor main current account and transfer to first direct.

    Hi there,

Can someone help me with a question on the First Active £25 account. This is my first time on the forum so don't even know where this message will end up so fingers crossed.
I read Martin's articles and know it's now closed but I though that we still had 3 months from The Times advert which was on 19th February based on the terms of such advertising. I called the 0800 number and was told that this was no longer valid. Isn't it true that they must still honour this advertisement and so make the account available for 3 months if you quote the reference number that was given in the times that day, which means one should still be able to open the account as long as the money is lodged by 19th May.

    thanks,
    rosy lee

I dont know the details, but I think it was really over when Martin posted 'GAME OVER', as he would have said - they must still honour this. Yes, they should honour an advert for a certain period but I guess they have taken legal advice and found a way to say that you must mandate your salary (it probably said 'T&Cs apply'). So, you can still get this offer, but now a condition is that you pay in your salary - making it a little more effort. If you dont want to do this then, unfortunately, you are too late.

    thanks Lipidicman,

I wonder is there any point in asking Martin directly 'cause I'm not willing to put my salary in?

Hopefully Martin is watching this thread and he will expand on my answer!
