i rang a few of the companies on the list but the prices wern't really any cheaper than who i am with ( prestige- through mcclaretys insurance) in fact one of the was nearly £300 dearer.
as a last shout i decided to give OPEN & DIRECT a ring and got slightly better cover than prestige for £261.00 .... i couldnt believe it prestige were over
    £400

car is a 1993 honda civic btw and i am a 42 yr old driver

hope this engourages someone to keep ringing

    thanks again to the OP

Received a letter recently from Open and Direct claiming to be more competitive for a renewal quote than they have ever been ...... and they were true to their word. Both they and Directline.com provided excellent fully comp prices for me ..... both around the £260 mark .... whereas I couldn't find anything under £400 anywhere else. I've been paying £450 for the past 2 years on 3rd party F&T so to save almost £200 was fantastic!
  • I went with Direct Line this year . Last year I paid £550 3rd PF&T with Admiral , they wanted £630 this year . Direct Line quoted £360 Comprehensive , the cheapest by far (in fact cheaper than their 3rd PF&T quote - £380 ???!!!)
First time I've ever paid my insurance off fully as its the cheapest I've paid in 9 years of driving , and my car is group 17 .

Car insurance is very very odd. I bought a new car last week, just as my insurance was due for renewal. Ive ended up paying LESS for a 1 year old Nissan Micra convertible, with a 1.6 engine than i was paying for a 6 year old soft top jeep with a 1.3 engine.

    Very odd... lol

  • I've always been of the opinion that insurance brokers just fire a dart into a dartboard , and multiply the score by 131.496 , and thats your insurance quote . Because most of the time their logic makes NO sense whatsoever .
Best thing to do is get quotes from at least 5 insurers , as the difference can be quite amazing sometimes .
One of the things I love about insurance companies is when you phone up to tell them you're not going with them his year as you've got a cheaper quote , and they say"We'll match it" !!! Why the hell didnt you give me a god-damn cheaper quote in the first place .

I tried getting Hughes to match my quote from Quinn Direct and it was so good that they said they couldnt! lol

Quinn may be a bit dodgy, but they are by far teh cheapest as far as im concerned.

In what way do you think they are dodgy? Is this to work for or to get an insurance from?

Ive just heard dodgy stories about them and they guy who owns the company. Ive personally never had any problem with Quinn, they are cheapest by far.

Anyone recommend anyone who does cheap car insurance for 17 year old:confused: I have done a few quotes but the amount is over £2k for a 1998 Ford Ka. Is this normal? Long time since I was 17 lol
