  • Hi all,

Fab advise Mikon for the newbies! hi E2, PPP,HH, Teds and money muppets and mephitsa.

Thought i'd give you my latest Barclaycard saga. I took the bull by the horns and gave them a call. They'd received my letter asking them to reduce interest back down to 0%. the chap i spoke to was helpful but like a robot its policy as the payment your making meets the requirement and we can charge 3%. He asked me if i understand and i said NO because the interest your charging me is now being paid by my extra £10 per month:mad:. He said its policy again. So he says i'll put you through to one of our complaints manager -
Manager again explains why, is very empathetic etc and will make a note on my file. she explains i won't be defaulted as i am not in arrears and my payments haven't been late just less. ( i'll come back to this)
So what she says she can do is refund my £10 interest this month:T:T Hurrah G -1 BC - 0:T:T
It's a small victory as they can obviously see its backwards! The only problem now is i'm not sure what to do about being defaulted etc any ideas chaps. Also as Mephitsa mentioned reducing my payments to BC back to what they were do you think CCCS will agree to this?
Sorry for the long winded post, a small victory even if it is for one month. Maybe if i send a letter every month and complain they'll get sick of me, offer me a stupidly low F&F and get rid of me :rotfl:
Another thing, have any of you done the repayment calculator? I did it for the above card, and if i continue paying this amount with interest it will take me 37 years to pay off and £11000 interest niceeeeeeeeeeee!

    Cheerio - x

Rant all you like. Well done for sorting Gabs.

    Hi Gabriella

I can only suggest that you speak to CCCS about the extra £10. Tell them you can ill afford £10 to be spent on interest and that it defeats the purpose of your DMP when the £10 could be better spent on reducing another bill.

It makes sense and I think you will just need to push and push at things until you get your answer.

As for me, I'm about to try and sort out my own issue. Dealing with the right now and the salary I'm on, I have worked out I can just about survive - pay all my bills but with no extra left over - if I remain on the current salary I'm on. This however means reducing my payments from £184 per month in total to around £50 - £80 per month in total. I'm dreading making the phonecalls but its going to have to be done. Do you think I should ring and explain my situation first and then back it up with a letter or send a letter first? My friend, who sorted out her own DMP, did it all over the phone and said it was much easier for her to negotiate that way. She thinks I should tell them all I can only afford the minimum payment of £5 to £10 each per month and once my job situation and income improves, I will automatically put my payments back up.

Basically, as you all know, I have all the same bills to pay - more or less (my electric bill is in credit cause I pay direct debit but it will be a few more months before they review the payments), but I have to survive on £600 less per month which was what paid my mortgage and a number of other essential bills. Hence the need for a second job!

By the way Mikon, loved your information piece. Do me a favour and forward me a sample of a letter -or anyone can - to send to the creditors begging about my situation.

    Thanx guys. You're the best.:o

I'd go with your pal's advice Mephista, but of course decision needs to be yours.

    Hope you are bearing up.

    Hi All

Letter sent to Moorcroft outlining my financial situation and informing them that I am DMP and that CCCS are authorised to deal with my financial affairs and therefore they need to be dealing with CCCS directly failure to do so contravenes the Lending Code and OFT Debt Collection Guidance.

Also enclosed £1 and requested copy of original credit agreement and a statement detailing payments to date.

Highlighted that I am in dispute with creditor regarding the outstanding balance.

Pointed out that I had received letter from creditor a week ago agreeing to a further 3 month payment plan.

I have also included the template for door step visits advising them not to visit my property as they will be breaking the law and that if they wish to visit then they need to make an appointment I have no intention of making such an appointment.

I have informed them that I will continue to pay to them what I paid to the creditor via my DMP.

I have asked them to respond in 12 working days in accordance with the CCA.

Now its wait and see. I have laid my cards on the table lets see what comes back.

Prof P F & F is up my sleeve waiting for the next hand to be dealt.

    Go Mikon Go!

    Best of luck.

Have you noticed how everybodys resolve has strengthened from the original debt laden, miserable, know nothings who have gathered on this thread over the last year?

The odd thing is that we all just want to pay back our dues but the banks/card co/DCA's etc etc are all putting obstacles in our way?

They constantly bully and harrass because they do not realise that most people are generally good, and found themselves in a situation, that, suddenly, was out of control. They treat us as if we are all going to do a runner!

So, we (the people) decide that if you want to play difficult then we can play difficult and it's going to cost the creditors MORE money in the long term by replying to CCA's, or taking us to court, or dealing with the ombudsman or dealing with official complaints.

If they just left us alone to pay, we would all be happy and the debts would, eventually, be cleared.

make no sense to me at all.

Well said E2. I think having interest frozen is reasonable approach in exchange for trashing credit record. Just no sense, as you say.

  • Hi all,

How is eveyones Tuesday but sort of Monday going? - I have to say i'm going to winge sorry :o Just feel a bit down about the whole situation checked my CCCS statement which made feel sick, and the whole Barclaycard issue is bothering me. • Morning

...and another from me as I ran out of steam yesterday evening. Hello to everyone I have not mentioned.

It's always lovely to see people posting through the highs and lows and the general social things that keep us going inbetween.

Have just paid my 12th installment to the DMP, so that's signature changed, 1 yr anniversary marked, quarter of the way in to be celebrated.

Been struggling a little with whether my glass is half full or half empty recently. Am so much wiser than I was a year ago that's for sure. Think I have decided to keep plodding away with DMP rather than UE route. I will be revising that though if anymore start reapplying interest.

Very grateful to you all here and on the other DMP thread for sharing and supporting. Thank you.

E2, I think we were at the same stage so presumably your DMP birthday too so I'm in good company.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hiya

Yes I will pay my 12th payment this weekend and that drops me below £17k and 30% ish paid back as well. It is also my anniversary of my Lightbulb moment so that alone is reason to celebrate. NO MORE DEBT, NO MORE DEBT!

For some reason recently, although I try to sound chipper about it all, it does get me down. Sometimes I think WOW ONLY 2 AND A BIT YEARS TO GO! and then I think OH MY GOD TWO AND A BIT YEARS TO GO! Ah well, it's my own fault i'm here but it is being sorted little by little.

MOT tomorrow so fingers crossed that nothing major needs doing, last years was quite painful so it shouldn't be tooooo bad.

I will keep plodding as well as I don't have anything that UE, that i'm aware of, but I may get a small bonus with PPI on one of the loans but really i'm still looking at the back end of 2013 to be free of it all.

    Onwards and upwards

  • Hiya - could someone please explain how UE works - I've seen a lot about it on this thread (and others) but not sure I really understand it. If there's a thread/some posts somewhere about that I can read through that would be v helpful.

I'm currently on a DMP - 18 months in with about 16 months to go (depending on how much interest my evil predators start adding now that I am paying them all above the contractual amounts meaning a few have started making noises about my no longer being in "financial difficulty" - well duh - start adding massive interest and charges and it won't be long before I am back where I started - makes me so so mad that these people seem to have no logic whatsoever). If it all starts getting too much again I was thinking I might investigate UE (if I can ever figure it out!). But not sure about upsetting the apple cart...

Any advice/pointing in the right direction would be v gratefully received.

Hope you're all looking forward to another cheeky bank hol!

Can I suggest googling UE diaries and looking at the first thing that comes up - it will be a forum - great place with loads of info!!
UE can be fab, but is not something to be taken lightly- it can be very stressful and you have to be very strong, but you do gets lots of support from the people on there.
Dopey on here has been doing it for a while, with great success.
TBH if my lot had not stopped interest from the start I would be doing it I think, cheers. PP
