    It looks like eventually iPhone/iPad video problem will be solved at some point but not sure how many websites would be happy to take part of this transitions.

    Still multitasking and other problems we discussed earlier needs to be resolved by Apple.

    The funny thing is Apple expects people to pay the full price NOW for something that only works in perhaps 1-2 years later.

    I'm guessing that multitasking will become available on the iPad once the new iPhone has been released, as it is rumored it will be able to handle multitasking and runs on a slightly different OS. As with most new products a lot of problems such as multitasking can be resolved in a simple firmware upgrade.

    There is an alarm to iPhone owners, i believe even if it is possible to put multitak on current 3.1 update, Apple would not do that.

    Apple will do one more hide and seek iPhone 4.0 OS,Again bad for the iPhone owners already spend big money, still will be spending to get another one.

    I wish Apple should introduce multitask to current iPhone users who uses 3G/3GS as well.

    Well the was rumours of two iPhones coming out as somewhere in the iPad SDK there was codes for iPhone 3,2 and iPhone 3,3. Also I saw a picture of abit of code from the iphone SDK and there was a comment line with something along the lines of double press the home button for multi tasking, so they may roll it out in an update, or may just put it on the new iPhone, i'm sure the 3GS has more than enough ability to support it and apple would be extremely stupid if they did not shove it in a update for the 3GS, owell time will tell!

    Which Apple display can I buy to connect to via VGA? Oh, I can't...

    The link was in regards to the camera SD issue, i think he meant to post this link

    store.apple DOT com /us/product/MC531ZM/A?fnode=MTc0MjU4NjE&mco=MTc0MjYwMDY

    (apologies for the link, again I can't post them as new)

    Bit of a let down that it's not built in, as with the camera but im guessing they were trying to keep it as slim as possible.

    With the displays they make are specifically built and designed for macs, as they even have charges built into the wires for charging your MacBook through it, but personally instead of spending a redonkulous amount of money on one of their displays I bought an adapter to link my mbp via HDMI.

    When it comes to the iPad, lots of people focus on what it can't do and they tend to overlook the potential of the device.

    I personally have wanted a Kindle since it was available to the UK. I stayed away because I could not justify paying the asking price. The iPad interests me for a similar reason, but of course it would have to do more for me to part with my money considering it's asking price.

    I can see myself picking it up off the coffee table in the morning and reading my paper electronically (assuming a similar Newspaper model is adopted in the UK like it is for the WSJ); it's something I wouldn't do with the iPhone due to it's screen size.

    I can see myself using it to read various pdf's I have as opposed to sitting with a laptop or on the iPhone.

    I can see myself curling up in bed with a book on the iPad (as opposed to on the laptop - yuk! - or on the iPhone, or the physical book.) I am quite materialistic though in that I like my shelf of books (as well as CDs and DVDs; VHS and Vinyl too :) ). Darn, that means the other half would want one too!

    They are things 'book' related which are made much more convenient and more useable/enjoyable by the iPad than using a laptop or a smartphone / handheld-media-player. Admittedly, the iPad loses vs the Kindle in that it would be useless to be reading in the garden with an iPad without shade; I don't sit in the garden to be in the shade.

    I can see myself reaching for an iPad on the coffee table when looking for local restaurants, cinema listings, a builder etc - gone are the copies of Yellow pages etc and replaced by Yell.com etc. It becomes a readily accessible TV guide instead of someone flicking through the on-screen listings (to add favourites, set up recording etc) which obscure 1/4 of the TV, while you're trying to watch.

    Those funny Facebook (yuk!) pictures can be seen much more clearly and be so much more accessible than with 4 people crowding around an iPhone. Same goes for any media content. Pass the iPad to share media is easier than pass the laptop.

    That 'quick' email is made that much quicker, as it the quick look on MSE and the 'routine' sites which you may visit day to day. Lets face it, such tasks are an overkill for most laptops/desktops/netbooks. And you do this with relative ease: without sitting down, without balancing the netbook on one hand while typing with another. I could have typed this while watching my lunch cook as opposed to sitting down to type this, while my lunch takes longer because I'm not cooking it. And no, I'm would not type this on the iPhone because it's a long post and the iPhone does not readily lend itself to the task with it's small screen.

    I'd like to be able to create a small recess in the kitchen wall where I can mount and unmount an iPad - it becomes a cookbook. I'd like to do the same in front of the cross trainer for some book reading or entertainment while exercising. I would imagine it would make a great media centre for cars, as opposed to the DVD installations which some people have. Heck, with the 3G version (plus GPS), it would make one of the best multifunction navigation systems when mounted on the dash - if someone has the time to do it.

    There is just so much it could be used for. As an educator, I can see it's potential in schools. People with those fancy home control installations could operate them from an iPad - the iPhone can currently do it. Games - Scrabble - that's just such a cool way to play, albeit expensive vs the actual board (and takes away the Math element of the game).

    Does the device justify the price for me: at the moment, I have to say no given the fact I have an iPhone and a laptop. I will have to wait and see how the 'Apps' fair before I consider it further. Even then, I will wait until iPad 2 comes out.

    Interesting post Scrilla. The problem I see with the iPad (and all e-readers) is that I don't see how they're more convenient than actually picking up a book, magazine or paper to read. The only advantage is you can get the virtual media faster than the physical media in the case of a book. For papers and magazines the diffenrece between having one delivered and downloading one will be tiny.

    I can see one being useful int he back of the car instead of a deicated DVD player but for navigation I think it would block too much of the daashboard or windscreen to be practical.

    I can see the advantages for causal web use and email but then I sit in front of a computer all day and the computer at home is rarely off so that's not that big an advantage.

    I don't think the iPad is for me and I do think in some ways it's a solution looking for a problem but it may suit other people's lifestyles better.
    It's my problem, it's my problem
    If I feel the need to hide
    And it's my problem if I have no friends
    And feel I want to die

    Nobody needs to play video games or mess around on Facebook.

    The idea that someone could have a genuine need to play the Xbox 360, but the iPad is some sort of frivolous diversion from the important things in life, is a little bit silly.

    I'd contend that the need (or 'want' for a more accurate term) to play games on an Xbox 360 is largely served only by that device or indeed other dedicated games consoles or a PC. The iPad is seen as more of an additional luxury as nothing it does in terms of the content consumption/creation on it is unique to the format at this stage, with the exception of apps being developed specifically. Basically, it's just another means to consume the web, music, email, video, photos etc

    Yes, the experience might arguably be better but the same need/want is currently served by existing devices. That's why a lot of people aren't buying into the hype. Will it replace smartphones? Unlikely for the majority. Is it a laptop/netbook replacement? Time will tell.

    Early sales are similar to the iPhone but that's mainly the early adopting fanatics out there. The masses are waiting and seeing...wise decision too, if Apple's previous playbook from the iPhone is followed with the iPad is repeated...(taken from Larry Dignan on the ZD Net blogs)
    • Sell the first wave of devices to the big Apple fans;
    • Use that group to sell enough units to bring down costs and refine the product;
    • Add apps continuously;
    • Lower prices (or give you more value for the money);
    • Market the device heavily.
