It's already been "jailbroken" and it's only been out for 24h or so!

Seems to me the average household has a plethora of devices - desktop/ laptop/ netbook (at least two), mobiles and smartphones (one per person plus landline), Playstation/ XBox/ Wii (families at least two) and quite possibly PSP/ DS Lite as well .... Do we need more than one telephone? Do we need more than one way to access the internet? Do we need more than one method of gaming? Do we need a new device which could conceivably take the place of a netbook and handheld games device? Most of these units will be purchased as objects of desire not to fulfil a genuine need, still makes Apple a profit.

Nobody needs to play video games or mess around on Facebook.

The idea that someone could have a genuine need to play the Xbox 360, but the iPad is some sort of frivolous diversion from the important things in life, is a little bit silly.
  • On a related note the iPad has been jailbroken already.

I think a lot of people will buy it just because of the Apple factor and wanting to have the latest and greatest thing, Personally i'm going to have a play with one in the apple store when it comes out over here before fully making my mind up.

Although there is something similar thats been on the market for quite some time, if this had a multitouch screen and an optimised os i would definitely consider it.

And something to consider for the future, It's only a prototype but it would be ideal for me...

I am cashing in on this.. I bought fifty cheap chopping boards in Poundland and they are drying out now as I have painted them gloss White. Next stage is to stick on some Apple logos (I cut them off some Aldi Juice cartons) this will ensure plenty of people will want one so they can announce it on Facebook first and make all their 754 'friends' look inferior. Then for the big launch...

    i-chop $199.9999

best of all its only compatible with vegetables supplied by me so more money rolling in (only my pre-trimmed carrots will fit). One final feature, its best not to eat anything prepared on your i-chop as I used some old paint from the back of the shed, might contain quite a lot of toxic lead in it. Never mind, lack of real function doesn't detract from the facts its still an

I'm surprised no one has mentioned HTML5 and how the web is beginning its move to this newer HTML language. If you don't know what it basically is, it allows for dynamic web content without the need for flash.

This link shows quake which has been programmed just using HTML5.

YouTube is also experimenting with HTML5

With HTML5 becoming more widely available alot of sites will be turning their video content from flash to HTML5, also for instance the New York Times on the iPad uses HTML5 for their videos. Obviously no one cares about the New York Times, but for instance you may of heard that The Times are going to charge for its webcontent soon. I seem to remember the mention of them using HTML5 but may be wrong.

Just something for you to ponder over...

I know nothing about all the technical stuff but my son is on holiday in New York and bought one at the Apple store on 5th Ave on Saturday. I have "spoken" to him on Facebook and he thinks it is fantastic. He travels a lot and thinks it will be very useful.

It looks like eventually iPhone/iPad video problem will be solved at some point but not sure how many websites would be happy to take part of this transitions.

Still multitasking and other problems we discussed earlier needs to be resolved by Apple.

I'm guessing that multitasking will become available on the iPad once the new iPhone has been released, as it is rumored it will be able to handle multitasking and runs on a slightly different OS. As with most new products a lot of problems such as multitasking can be resolved in a simple firmware upgrade.
