Hi lemoncheesecake, also couldn't read and run. I agree with posting ingredients on Old Style, you can also try Super Cook for recipe search by ingredients. Posting your general location would be good, it's great so many people have offered to drop in with supplies.

  • Just a thought but have you got any local 'pub carpark' markets on today (or do these just exist in our area?) if you wait till the veg stall is just about closing up and go and say 'I've got x pounds what can you give me' a lot of veg stalls will give you all the stuff they don't want to have to pack up...it may be a bit odds and soddsy but it all helps, especially if they give you some fruit to make into puddings as well. (my theory is that no one cares if the main course is a little 'patchy' if you've done a nice, carb laden, stodgy pudding for them to fill up on)

    Hope you're ok x
  • Also, if you're anywhere near Doncaster we can drop you a box of stuff off.

I know it must be incredibly worrying for you (I'm such a hoarder and start panicking when we run down on anything) but if you can get through this you can get through anything!

    Hi,

I'm so glad things aren't looking so desperate. With what you have you can do a lot.
You may need to buy some eggs, carrots, cougettes, pack of basics/value lasagne and yeast for what I suggest but obviously adjust for your own purposes.

How about chick pea and butternut squash curry with rice. Use 1/2 squash
Split pea casserole with other 1/2 butternut squash with potatoes
Iceberg lettuce and orange salad with gilled chicken pieces (cut up say 2 of the chicken thighs for this) s/w boiled potatoes
Onion and pea quiche, you can use oil to make pastry but use less than you would marge. Top with very little of your cheese. s/w pots and perhaps courgettes
Pizza easy if use yeast and a little oil. Tomato sauce made from 1 (or 2) tins if you can run to buying another, onion and garlic. Could use sardines and peas with this and cheese as topping. If you buy eggs could also use 2 eggs hard boiled and quartered as extra topping.
Spaghetti cheese in oven with veg you buy and or peas.
    Omellete
Spaghetti with tinned tomatoes as sauce
Make bread using flour and yeast

For lunches spit pea soup/ sardine sandwhiches/

Aah thought I'd lost the whole post.

Also there's risotto using any veg you have
Veg lasagne using onions carrots courgettes garlic and a white sauce plus a littl chees on the top bfore it goes in the oven
Veg moussaka, as lasagne bt use pots cut thickly and par boiled on top of veg, no lasagne and white sauce with cheese topping as before

Breakfast could be hot cross buns and toast or cereal if you have any
Oops I forgot fish fingers and baked beans
The 4 remaining chicken thighs could be a roast or casserole or curry or several of these padded with veg and potatoes or rice.
    Good luck

You forgot looking for roadkill too.

Seriously though, there are kids involved so it's not a good position to be in.

I hope there's a good reason for it so that it doesn't happen again next month.

Isn't there an organisation that gives out food parcels? Food bank or something like that?

    Poo

Too right. It is a bit more complex with children. I've gone without any food at all for a couple of days many years ago and there were times I lived on bread and cheese all week. Even a couple of years ago I ended up with Cornflakes as a main meal for three evenings in a row. But you can't do that with kids.

Not very healthy but what about a large bag of potatoes & you can do loads of chips or jacket potatoes? For the healthier option what about spending the £4.50 on veg, rice & pasta - all cheap foods. Good luck! Some of my best meals have been when I've added bits & pieces together. Keep us posted.

    Hi lemoncheesecake. :)

It seems that this thread is focusing very much on meal planning etc now, rather than dealing directly with debt issues.

The DFW's here are great for both, but the posters on the Old Style MoneySaving have made meal planning and making do on a tiny budget truly one of their specialities.

So it's been suggested to me that if you want:

You could also start your own thread on that board.

    or

I could move this thread over to that board.

Obviously you don't need to do either if you don't want. ;)

    Regards

    Hi Lemon:hello:

I had a look at your list of food and I am sure the OSers could come up with a good range of suggestions for you.

Do feel free to come over to OS - people there are more than happy to helpsmiley-hug002.gif

A very inspirational thread is feeding a family of 4 on £40 a month

Hope to see you over in OS. If you can give us a bit more detail on your list of food so the others there can be quite specific with using up exactly what you have, and making the most of the small amount of cash you have.

This might be a silly question but do you have any friends you could sell the champagne to for a lower price?

  • wow - thanks for the ideas.....a real inspiration. I've used the milk voucher for milk, bread and 12 eggs (thought they'd be useful)

Kids have had wheat bisks for breakast - now finished but have 1/2 box of cornflakes which should feed them tomorrow and then going to buy some porridge oats out of the 4.50.

Going to have the hot cross buns for lunch (they need eating today) and I have 1/4 tub of marg left. Then an orange for pudding followed by easter eggs.

For tea I'm going to use the chicken thighs in a casserole type thing served with rice (have loads of this) and easter egg for pud again :(

Monday: Breakfast - cornflakes, Lunch - Beans on Toast and yoghurt, Tea - going to make that butternut squash and chickpea stew served with mashd pots?

Then I'm stuck - should I buy some fresh fruit with my money as havenone of that or should I get tinned for now? The kids won't eat sardines so Ill have them one night (perhpas when they have fishfingers?)

Found some popping corn at the backof the cupboard so going to make that for them - bless they're so excited......they think it's a treat! Any ideas for a topping? I have icing sugar and golden syrup?
