Card refused in Asda-what are we going to eat?

Just went to do the monthly shop and my card was refused:( Have left a huge trolley at the checkout. Checked my account and its over the overdraft limit. No money coming in until a week on Tuesday.
Other than about 8 easter eggs we have hardly any food in the house. OH is working away at the moment so just me and the kids. My mums on holiday so I can't even go over to hers.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

What do you have, make a list of everything (including the stuff you might think insignificant) and we can help you meal plan.0

If you have any cash at all you could go to the supermarket when its about to close and see if there are any reduced items such as bread, meat - things that will spoil if not sold. Also there is usually a section where they have reduced stuff. Being bank holiday you might be in luck. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

Even though your mum is away does anyone have a key to her house? Under the circumstances would it be acceptable to borrow some food out of her cupboards/freezer?You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0

Sorry to hear that lemoncheescake - a horrible thing to happen!
First thing is to make whatever food you do have in the house pay its way. Do you have flour, a bit of butter, milk and eggs? Make a quiche, throwing in the hard bits of cheese at the back of the fridge and any soggy veggies. There are lots of ideas on the other boards but I just wanted to throw something at you firts.
Any old tins lurking at the back of cupboards? Time to get creative with unusual ingredients. Maybe some pasta, tin of chick peas and tin of tomatoes, perhaps.
There will be more people with suggestions coming along behind me I'm sure. Meanwhile, get on the phone to some friends and offer to share your eggs in return for a share in their sunday lunch - make an adventure of it with the kids so they don't feel they are missing out.
Good luck.DMP mutual support thread member 3730 -
Is it whole shopping bill that put you over the overdraft, Can you check bank via phone to check actual balance?0

If you have a few potatoes, an onion and a few bread + a stock cube you could make some soup. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0

If you've got some rice, any bits of veg or meat, and a stock cube, you could make a risotto.
With any pasta, spaghetti or macaroni, mix it up with bits of veg and meat, tin of tomatoes, some herbs, and/or odd bits of cheese.
For a variation on a theme, the above could be adapted into soup for lunch.

Check your coat pockets and sofa for any change, borrow from the children's piggybanks, check if you still have £5 left in your overdraft and if so, search the old style forum for cheap meals. Hope you manage to sort something out." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

God help ya love, I've been there so many times, I know how you feel. Is there a neighbour or friend you can borrow a few quid from to help tide you over? Anything you can pawn?
If all else fails see if you can phone your mum to put some money in your account.
Wishing you all the best, in my prayers too.

Hi lemoncheesecake, I'm so sorry you've had such a horrible and worrying experience. I knwo this is not ideal, but its a thought, the salvation army gives food parcels for people in extreme need so may be something you can do to get through a coupe of days until ur mum comes back.
Also here is a link to a thread for meal for 50p for 2

you may be able to get some meals out of it from whats in ur stores.
Can you ask oh's parent or close friends for help? I'll be thinking of you and know you can and will get through this difficult time
