No very helpful. sure OP is now aware of this, what they are asking for is a solution to the problem they are now in.

    agree with others:
    • check everywhere for money
    • buy value brands and visit supermarket at the time they reduce (there's a guide on that somewhere)
    • is there anything you have bought recently you still have the receipt for - you could return it and use the cash
    • ebay anything you know will sell quickly
    • not sure if it's still running but there was a free £5 of food delivered by your milkman
    hope you get it sorted

    Watch your balance?

Diplomacy not your strong point is it Woody?

Having said that, I hope this is the first time this has happened and will be the last too!

Do you know how/why this has happened? I mean, I'm guessing as you went to do a monthly shop you are at least £100-£150 short. Has there been some unexpected expense this month? If not, then what can you do to make sure this doesn't happen next month?

Was the card refused because the bill would have put you over the o/d limit or was you over already? I know if a retailer swipes your card, the amount is earmarked in your account immediately to pay that retailer, if the sale does not go through the "earmark" is cancelled after a while (sorry not sure how long that takes). I was told this by my bank when my card was refused when trying to pay £1000 for my laser eye surgery and the surgery's swipey thing was on a go slow so the receptionist swiped my card 3 times. Of course it was declined on the 3rd swipe because I didn't have £3k in that account. I went to the bank the next day and all was fine with my account and none of the swipes had worked.

As someone else suggested, check your balance again maybe tomorrow to see if that "earmarked" payment has been released. If it has, then you will hopefully have enough to do a week or two's worth of shopping on Monday (remember it will probably be Sunday hours).

As others have said, please list all of the food you have in the house (including easter eggs) no matter how obscure, I'm sure someone will find something to put the most bizarre ingredients together to make a perfectly edible meal.

    Hope that helps.

Some good suggestions already - I agree make full lists of everything you do have to start and hunt out all and any cash in the house. With as little as £10 you will be able to feed yourself and the children until next tuesday if you shop carefully.

Do you have any reward points for anywhere? tescos, nectar for sainsburys or even advantage points for boots?

    Hi Lemoncheesecake

Really feel for you tonight, I have been in the situation of not having any money for food and it feels awful. Like many of the post on here suggest it is surprising how imaginative you can be with what you have in back of the cupboard and the depths of the freezer. I really hope that you get inspriation and support from the forum. If I live locally to you I could get some stuff to you I live near to Pontypool in Wales. I know its easy for me to say but chin and and be strong you will get through.

    In my thoughts.

Could your mum or OH order you a takeaway by phone using their card? That would sort out tonight, if you haven't already.

You'll be lucky if you can find anywhere open tomorrow even if you do scrape up some money. Maybe a petrol station with a little shop, but things will be dear there.

Got any packets of cereal? Dried milk (if no fresh left)? I could live for a day on that if I had to.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Re: the free milk offer - there has been some difficulty with getting the free £5, but one advantage for the OP is they don't bill until the 20th of the month. Assuming you can live off bread, milk, cheese, bacon and eggs it might be of some help. The goods are a bit expensive though, but probably cheaper than further overdraft charges etc.

    Hi Lemon,

Do you have enough food to last until Tuesday ? You can apply for a Crisis Loan , at your local DWP after the Easter break .
    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/MoneyTaxAndBenefits/BenefitsTaxCreditsAndOtherSupport/On_a_low_income/DG_10018856

You dont have to be in reciept of benefits to apply , and it will cover the cost of your food until payday .

Hope this helps you . Best wishes
