Oh I am so glad you posted again xx
I am useless at cooking, so can't offer much help in that department, just relieved you got here to see the suggestions.
I am so unhelathy I would probably just use salt or sugar if you have them as toppings for the popcorn! I bet icing sugar would work.
what horrible luck to have a power cut too.
Old style will seriously work miracle with your food list. thinking of you, I am in the South, near London? if that is any use to you
xxxxNevertheless she persisted.0 -
you can always freeze the hot cross buns - and to be honest, they will keep a couple of days after the date
I havent tried it myself but icing sugar is meant to be nice sprinkled over? I mke a caramelly topping of butter and brown sugar/maple syrup
Regards how to spend your money - personally if it was me - I would meal plan right up until next tuesday and see what you need to keep you going until then. You could buy fresh fruit but you may be short of staples for dinner etc
As it's only for short term, i would concentrate on filling power.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

OP, I'm glad that things aren't quite as bad as they first seemed. Have you checked to see if you are claiming all benefits that you could be entitled to? Even if it's only a couple of pounds off the council tax bill, it might help in the future. It's good to see that your overdraft isn't high as well, as more debt isn't what you want right now.
I just wanted to add how generous people are, offering their ideas and even their food to help out the OP. There are a lot of good hearted people out there.0 -

Lemon, please post your county as there are many MSEers who may be nearby who would be delighted to assist.0 -
With your £4.50 get a bag of baking potatoes, and some value baked beans for filling lunches. Plus some value bread (unless you've got ingredients for making your own?), more value pasta, value tomatoes. You could then have jacket pots, with cheese or baked beans; eggy bread, toast, egg on toast, bread pudding (if you have raisins)? and lots of pasta.
It will help fill you up, so you won't get hungry until you get paid.0 -
Sardines mashed with a little mayo, vinegar, salt and pepper is almost as good as tuna in sandwiches or a baked potaoe. Or you could do what my mother used to call 'little fishes on toast'.
Each day takes you a bit nearer to 'pay day' ... oh god that brings back memories!:) take care.

lemoncheesecake, it's great to hear things are looking up for you and your dk's. Another thought, have you seen Weezl's recipe testing and frugalisation thread? Theres' a list of 'frugalised' recipes here. As fermi said, there's a mealplanning 'community' on Old Style and a new mealplan thread is started every week and anyone who wants can post their mealplan for that week. We've been mealplanning for over a year now and it's saved us a fortune."We have to be kind because everyone is fighting a great, great battle" - Sir Richard Attenborough

What lovely people on here :A (well, most people anyway)
Looking a bit further ahead OP, are you on a DMP with one of the debt charities? Hopefully not with one of those rip off companies that take money from desperate people
If things are so tight that you cannot afford food for your kids can you not get in touch and have your DMP reassessed? I am not an expert on DMPs (though I am sure one will come along in a minute) but I was under the impression that adjustments could be made if circumstances changed etc.
I am fortunate that I don't have debt issues now,but remember that desperate feeling from when my kids were small
Take care x0 -
Saw yesterday in Asda two huge bags of Pasta for £1.30 there on buy one get one free. Isnt exactly appertising but if u have a bowl of pasta... even if its plain on its own you still have a full tummy, and thats all that matters.
In regards to the children - how old r they? R they old enough to be told basically whats happend, i.e mummys got no money this week, but what would you like to be treated to when daddys home? Perhaps a small £5 and under toy each just as a reward for their patience?Learning to be 'good with money'0
