i travel on this 30pmh road 2/3 times a day, its one of the main roads in the city and everyone knows where the speed camera is and (annoyingly) hit breaks accordingly !
one day was on this same busy road, everyone breaked as normal
this car then flew past me on the outside lane and the camera flashed
i checked my speed just to be sure - and was spot on the 30 mark
and who gets the penalty notice ???? me of course
saying i was doing 40mph
have wrote numerous letters contesting the fine & 3 proposed penalty points - saying will go to court
they just keep replying saying they have "photographic evidence", but refuse to send me this evidence.
they they go on to threaten me to pay within 14 days etc etc, and that if I go to court i risk being fined more, with more penalty points
speed cameras, traffic police etc never used to bother me, i thought they did a good job
i never break the speed limit
BUT NOW THEY BOIL MY BLOOD !!!
am fuming !!!
and waiting for my day in court !!!
just to think that the tit that was speeding will prob be off the hook...0 -
I've had a leter informing me I was driving at 88mph on a 60mph road, caught by a mobile unit parked on bridge over the road,
I clearly remember seeing the mobile unit that day and checking my speed wich had crept to 62 so I slowed down. There were cars overtaking me at the time so they must have been travelling faster but police refuse to discuss it with me and are sending me a court date,
I know I wasn't travelling 88mph, I was in my husbands sports car, with daughter and only 1/2 mile onto rd after leaving a roundabout. I've driven down there since and I know I couldn't have got to that speed in such a short space of time

More traffic police on the roads ONLY arresting people who cannot drive, then the number of accidents will go down. Sitting in a van with a speed gun hardly helps IMHO.
I have just returned from a 60mile round trip, had l been a traffic cop l would have just fined about 15 people for bad driving. If l was on commission l would be rolling in it!! ;D
I say again, I think police should only focus on people who cannot drive, they cause the accidents in the first place, speeding doesn't cause the accident, it is only a secondry factor in determining how bad it is.
Problem solved!Sense is not common.0 -
Glad - Could you get a letter from a garage saying it would be impossible in your car? Have you written to them saying all this? If you have to go to court, you have your daughter as witness and if you could get support from a garage......(?)Torgwen..........

Static speed cameras take 2 pictures..... I have had no dealings with "Mobile Cameras", do they also take 2 pictures.
In Glad's case I would want to be seeing the "Unedited" photographs of the incident in question. This should clearly show both vehicles, with Glad's vehicle more to the left and the other vehicle closer to "center" of shot. The second picture "If taken" should clearly show a substantial gap between the two vehicles. Either way in court you will be able to prove that the "Trigger" vehicle was the other driver.
This is actually quite a serious situation, I would like to think the system is infalable you'll have to keep us posted Glad!! You have my interest!!0 -
There is a busy A-road near my house which links the city centre to the northern suburbs and all the big supermarkets. It has several cameras within a two mile stretch.
I set off at some lights, going 40, and I know I was going 40 because the cameras are everywhere and I use the road a lot.
At the next set of lights - which were on green - an old woman stepped straight out into the road and started crossing.
I'm rapidly approaching at 40mph with about ten cars behind me and ten in the right-hand lane doing the same speed. I had to slam on my brakes and hit the horn for about five seconds, partly so that everyone else was aware (she was very small and I don't think anyone behind me would have seen her).
She carried on and - as my bonnet reached the white line to stop for her - jumped out of her skin when she saw me so close! Not only had she not looked at the lights, waited for them to change etc but she also couldn't hear my horn which I'd blasted for about five or six seconds.
And what was her response for trying to stop someone running her over?
"F******G B****H!!!"
But it does go to show that (IMO) speed is secondary to keeping your distance. If I had been going 35mph in that 40 zone and those ten cars had been tailgating each other, there would have been an ENORMOUS accident. As we were all quite spaced out, we all had time to react.
I apply this principle whenever I drive. I can admit I speed sometimes, not because I mean to or I think it's clever, but I simply don't realise it (and when I do I correct it). But I ALWAYS leave a gap of two seconds between me and the car in front. If someone is tailgating me, I don't go faster, I sit there and hope they will go round me.
Just look at the way the chevrons on some motorways space out the traffic beautifully - this is the kind of system we need. Going slower means nothing if you are up someone's a**e all the time.0 -
couldnt agree more !!!
why do some eejits insist on driving so close ?
it really annoys me - especially when I have kids in the car.
some of them wave their arms around as if to say "go faster", perhaps i will make a sign saying "check the speed limit my friend" and hold it up in these instances...0 -
I completely agree Circuit. There's nothing more worrying than when it starts p......g with rain, it's dark, you're on a dual carriageway, and lorries and cars all try to keep up the speed they were going before it started raining. They force you to drive faster than you think is safe by coming right up behind you, and to get past the lorries is a nightmare with all the spray and you can't see what's in front. Same applies to any situation that dumb *************s get right up behind you.Torgwen..........

With people like that perhaps you need to speak their language eg: "BACK OFF, *********!!"Torgwen.....................
