I strongly believe that part of the driving test should include driving on a dual carriageway or motorway - in my test I only got up to about 50mph!"No matter how little money and how few possesions you own, having a dog makes you rich." - Louis Sabin0

I didn;'t even get that fast on my lessons. First time i went on the motorway was a disaster (don't laugh) but they were adding a new section to the M66 so coming off / on was a shared lane seperated by traffic cones.
I was chain smoking cos i was dead nervous, flicked a cig out of the window and lost a tiny bit of concentration and mis-judged the width of the car and took out about 10 road cones0 -
LOL, sorry couldn't help it ;D ;D0

Your not really trying to say it's ok to go over the limit cause somtimes you do go slower for children etc :-[
Absolutely NOT, I am saying that it is appropriate to drive at a speed which is safe for the conditions. You have to bear in mind, that if I happen to be exceeding the speed limit & am involved in an accident then I have to pay the consequences of the law, just as I would if I were caught by a speed camera, car, officer whatever...

I believe the quoted speeds for a ban are double the speed limit or 100MPH, which ever is the smaller. I can place my hand on heart and honestly tell you that I have only ever once driven to this excess (112MPH in a 70MPH), was caught - personally presented my mitigation which was excepted received 3 points & triple figure fine. The circumstances were exceptional, but I felt I was dealt with appropriately.0 -

Calm down I was pulling your leg ;D
But I am a bit gob smacked at the 112mph though :-/0 -
I was suitably punished!! AC would have been proud with the actions of the Magistrates!! It was a long time ago & I would certainly NOT entertain such speeds today, I am quite happy for the mandatory speed to remain at 70MPH. As I said earlier there are far too many poor drivers on the roads to justify speeds in excess of this.
