S-G - You shouldn't be driving so much above the speed limit that you have to "anchor it"! We're back to the bad driving habits again......

The link you gave with quoted figures gave the cause of accidents, not the result; my point being that regardless of what caused it, the speed you're going at the time of an accident can be crucial.

On the way into Cardiff from the east, there is a speed camera as you approach the Heath Hospital (main accident and emergency hospital in Cardiff area). People slow down to 50mph a couple of miles before at the 50mph sign then they slow to 40mph at the 40mph near the Heath. It works to slow people down near a hospital and as they approach town with its 30mph areas where it is more built up. What is the problem with that?

    OK A safer option

Armed forces vehicles have (or at least used to) have devices fitted that govern the engines and prevent them from going above 60 mph
In todays technological age cars could all be fitted with these and then they would not exceed the limit ;D

    A simple flick of a switch ;D ;D

You must of seen the advert where it shows a car at 30 and where it stops and how much further it travels at 35

How come people can't grasp that

I don't know if you've ever tried to cut down the length of time it takes you to do a particular journey - I have. But if you work it out, the average mph faster that you have to go over eg. a 3 hour journey to get there say 10 minutes quicker, is just not worth sticking your neck out for.

I was talking theoretically not from experience. At night you can see the camera when you're almost on top of it and hit the brakes to ensure you're going within the limit.

I've got 3 points on my licence which come off in approximately a month. Since i got those on my licence i've been stopped for 1 single driving offence and that was not displaying my tax disc (refused to stick to the windscreen and i had the windows open cos it was summer)

Perhaps we should get advice from the army types and all have to drive sturdier vehicles, like small tanks. We could have paint balls that we could shoot at other drivers. When those idiots come up behind you, you could paint ball them. It wouldn't be worth them doing it to you cos you're in front of them and if they cause you to stop they wouldn't get past.......!!

Yep Trafalgar it is about people, not points or fines or money.

Which is why i disagree with speed cameras I'm all for road safety but you don't see them on roads where there are a high number of accidents. Only on busy roads where they can collect the most revenue from them.
Take the M25 for example, the amount of speed cameras there aren't for 'safety' reasons but to rake in the profits. If the money was collected by the government and fed back into transport issues (but not public transport) then there probably wouldn't be as much fuss about them

I thought there had to have been a certain amount of accidents on a stretch of road before they put them in - is it decided by the local police force or countrywide? They could do with one on the M4 near Newport, there are accidents along that stretch all the time, I bet there's not a week that doesn't have at least one. They should pick where they put them better, I agree.

Your probably right I came into this thread because I believe speed kills and was making the point "slow down" (check top post please)
"unfamiliar road ,over the limit, lot on my mind, just begging for an accident ,complains ,luckily gets speed awareness course",and if they'd killed somebody what awareness course would the family have, it makes my blood boil
So got a bit drawn in to it :-/
Didn't mean to pick on ya ;D

But I still say if people didn't speed , no revenue,no cameras

    Ergo less speed fewer deaths
