I always "liberate" sauce sachets, but only the branded ones. Tomato ketchup and salad cream have to be Heinz, and brown sauce has to be HP.
I never buy loose mushrooms with long stalks. Why pay good money for something you are going to cut off and throw away?
Similarly, whenever I cut a sweet pepper into slices ...
CUTTING A ROUND SWEET PEPPER INTO STRAIGHT SLICES
Cut the top and bottom off. Remove the middle bit with the seeds. Make a cut down it. Open it out. The round pepper is now a rectangular pepper. Cut into slices.
... I always cut the stalk out of the top bit, finely chop the top and bottom bits and then add it to the dish. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
When we go to a department store for lunch with my Nan occasionally, she keeps the cup and saucer, spoon, milk, sachets etc...... She tried to take a plate once but I managed to talk her out of it!!!0

.
Mushroom stalks work well in soup and veg dishes and can be added to mince. I cut off the brown bit at the bottom . If I am only using the caps eg. for breakfast I save the stalks for a dish later in the day. Use it all!!0 -

I've spent the last 4 hours reading this thread and it is amazing!! My eyes are sore now so I'm going to have to stop but I wanted to put a new suggestion on before I go.
Never ever buy poppy seeds for recipes. Simply ask in your supermarket (mine was tescos) and they will give you a whole bagful from the in-store bakery.
I only asked because they had run out of jars of poppy seeds and i was making some lemon and poppyseed muffins. They tasted all the better for the free seeds!MS Stalwart. Used site for >10 years :jMake Do, Mend and Minimise member - focussing on upcycling/repurposing and sewing0 -
I throw mushroom styalks into whatever I'm cooking too! I saw OH look at me strangly one night but I think he thinks thats the right way to do things so I've kept quiet!
He's never said anything about the white vinegar in the washing up liquid either :rolleyes:0 -

During the winter, when I am not using my hanging baskets, I empty them, hang them upside-down and put the shower cap over it. I then hang a bird feeder in the middle and the shower cap keeps the rain off - nice dry food for the birds!!
Wow I love this idea thanks alot! :TA penny saved is a penny earned

Cleans entire carpets with lint rollers to remove the dog hairs etc........am I?
Have a go with rubber soled shoes - I always use trainers to get the ingrained hairs out. Just rub along carpet (I do this on my hands and knees with trainer in hand, but I suppose you could wear them, if you can see that well). Same as a glove I suppose, but without the burn. Do let the shoes cool down occasionally though!:wall:0 -
My DH cuts the toothpaste tube longways and opens it up flat to use the toothpaste stuck to the inside of the tube!keep smiling,

I used to buy Nappy Bags insted of Doggy Bags as they were about a quarter of the price, however the council near where I work give you them for free!
I mentioned this in the office to a young Mum about how chuffed I was, and she got some to use as Nappy Bags!
I didn't realise I was so OS. I do a lot of the regular stuff (Swilling tins out, keeping the "good" legs of tights, Use stardrops for everything, cut open tubes, use the face wipes to clean the bathroom, use the veg water for gravey) but isn't that just normal?????
When we were kids and we ran out of loo roll my mum would cut the newspaper into squares! Don't think I'd like to do that now!Right now I'm having amnesia and deja- vu at the same time. I think I've forgotten this before0
