Hi lil_me
All the things you have done to get rid of pet hair I have also tried, and had friction burns on my hands to prove it :rotfl:. Have also got on hands and knee with one of the green scubbing pads and gone over the whole carpet, and, tiles were no better I just used to get fur balls floating past as I chased them with a mop  .
Trouble is no matter what you do the is always more .
Stupid thing is now woofer is no longer with us I miss all that, strange bods arn't we?Mortgage Owed: Sept 14 - £107398.200 -
If old shirts are too badly worn to send to the charity shop, I cut off all the buttons and save them in an old jar. Have you seen how much it costs to buy a card of buttons these days?
I've got some old sponges I'm going to chop up to dig into my patio containers to save buying expensive water retaining crystals.
And I always empty my vacuum cleaner bag onto the compost heap using kitchen tongs and reuse it. Think the same bag has lasted about five years now :rotfl:0 -
Many years ago, I ran a mother and toddler club on a fairly deprived housing estate and money was very tight for everything.
I used up men's shirts to make craft pinnies for the kiddies.
Take off the collars and make a pleat in the centre back of the shirt. Stitch around the neck - making the neck much smaller!
Cut the bottom off the sleeves just above the wrist opening, make a small hem and thread with 'knicker elastic' (the very narrow stuff) to make sure the the wrist fits fairly snuggly.
Hem the shirt if necessary to be able to cover however long you want it to be.

our junior church are still using the same mens shirts left over from a church jumble sale that were transformed in this way to make painting shirts - that i used as a kid 30 years ago. much better for the financies and the environment than buying plastic painting shirts..one size fits all even me now!!Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. i have just read this thread over the last three days and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
some of the ideas have made me howl with laughter and others have made me feel quite ill (bogies on your bum.....!!!) but I am going to be taking on so many of the ideas that I dont already do.
i turn the bottles upside down, recycle all food waste (unless i throw it surrepticiously into the slow cooker!!) try not to use too many carrier bags (recently bought myself a couple of friendly bags) and various other things, but now I will be doing more!
toilet rolls to grow seedlings, after re-shaping them so the toilet roll doesnt get used as quick, using the 'getting hot water' to save for plants etc. i am going to clear mykitchen windowsill and grow as many salad leaves and as many tomatos as i can!!
this site just may save my life....
thanks to you all.

hi everybody... ive giggled throught the last couple of posts... the vac one just reminded me of my mother she some how seemed to make the vac bag last forever :rotfl:... but the pet hair.. now i have a thing for that... my grandad (bless him may he rest in peace) refused to pay for anything he didnt need so he would get me to get a hand saw (generallly in any tool box) and drag it across the carpet... it got all the dog hair up (he had a long haired german shephard) and the dust that i vac'ed really well... a little hard work but think of it as a good source of excerise :rotfl: xxx
Still searching .....:)

I use a wind-up lantern on a low setting in the evening to light the bathroom when having a bath - saves using a match to light a candle!
The lantern is part of my survival box, and also has a radio, it's nice lying there in the warmth, listening to classic fm and saving money on light at the same time....If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

love reading this thread and do a LOT of these things! we just recently redecorated our little toilet by using the pink paint left over from my dd room last year and the yellow left over from my grans front room with a black border cut out from a 'generous' wallpaper sample I snaffled from B&Q (i know pink and yellow sounds odd but it looks sooooo cool!) the curtain pole was a cut off from my sons old one and the curtain was the bit we cut off our bedroom curtain when it was too long! the tie back is an old silver bracelet - the overall effect is fab and not a penny spent! - tonight I started to paint the hall with the cream and white paints left over from the front room and tomorrow i'm seeing what else I can scavenge or reuse!Best Threads -

LOL littlemisslotsofdebt! my oh is bloody OBSESSED with those little sachets of sauce you get when you go for meals! i cant count the times ive left a pub or resteraunt with the 'extra' ones in my handbag! hes had to stop doing it so much now though, as last time we went out, he accidentally sat on my bag, and my purse, mobile and make up got covered in mayo as the blinking sachets burst!
Just started reading this thread and saw your comment..
My youngest son has an obsession with these (he's 9), he fills his pockets and my bag but sometimes forgets to tell me! I've lost count of the ketchup sachets that have gone through the wash!!!!! luckily none have popped!!!!
We have a big tin of various condiment sachets thanks to him! :T0
