Missed a few pages, so not sure if anyone else does this, but we have timers for the diswasher and washing machine so they come on at night when the electricity is cheaper.
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

I used to do this then someone my OH knows lost his wife and home in a fire as their washing machine caught fire overnight and his wife couldn't get out. Since then he won't let me do this but I get up about 5am so I put the washing machine on then and it's done before the day rate electricity clicks in.
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion

Am I right in thinking electricity is ONLY cheaper at night if you've applied to go onto an economy 7 or equivalent tarrif? Otherwise the night time elctricity to all houses is exactly the same price as in the day.

    I did that too :D

Also, I took the washing machine apart and used the drum as a BBQ,

I love this! How inventive! Would make a good 'firepit' for camping!

You guys would all be good on that tv programme 'scrapheap challenge' where you make stuff out of rubbish!

Leaving bottles upside down, so every last drop drains out.............

I had a flatmate who did this, I would get really fed up when all these bottles would keep falling over and I used think 'what a tight moo'.

Now I spend my time balancing various bottles, how far I've come as an MSEr.

I even caught myself keeping an empty bleach bottle the other day until it was time to mop the kitchen floor, so I could fill the mop bucket with the container and get the very last little weeniest bit of bleach out of it!

When buying veg.. things like broccoli and such are sold for a set price each. I'll look around for what looks like the 4 biggest, then put them on the scales to weigh them. I take the heaviest one ofcourse. :-) I'll do the same with the plastic containers full of grapes or strawberries. I get looked at awfully funny though.. lol!

One thing I don't think I read was saving the bacon fat ... my Mum always drained it out of the grill pan into a special sort of stoneware jam jar she kept in the fridge. And then it was used later for fried eggs or fried bread to give them a yummy bacony taste.

Yep, I do that too. Thought it was quite normal actually. :D

Good to know we weren't the only ones! Actually I thought it was normal too, but as I got older I realised a lot of people were wasteful (and I became one of them for a while)..
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
