No Elisamoose,
I just put them in the normal white wash - no different from washing your knickers IMO. Would be different if it were no.2s!!Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!0 -
I love your ideas Winchelsea - very green as well as frugal! :T I use hankies and flannels - am curious about the "family cloths" as I heard the reusable loo-roll called. I see no problem just bunging them in the wash either. There are no pathogens or anything ... we've just become too soft and squeamish I reckon!
marmiterulesok - I wouldn't reuse mine, it's in tatters after I use it even once. And I know there are bacteria in the mouth that might multiply on the floss as it would be moist. But if you've been reusing it successfully and your dentist/hygienist thinks it's ok then why not?Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!

Evening everyone,
Just finished reading thru the thread, and i confess! I always break the florets off the brocolli in Mr a's before bagging.Stood next to some male students [last year ] and they did it as a matter of course as it was the only way they could work out how much to buy :rotfl: so many florets per person, makes perfect sense.

But peeled brocolli stems taste better than the florets! And the earlier posts about not buying mishrooms with stalks - why the hell aren't you just "tailing" and cleaning then USING the stalks?!?0

Peeled broccoli stems make a cracking soup!:D
I save all the carefully cut plastic bags off of the newspaper magazines etc on a Sunday. They come in dead handy sometimes to store things in the fridge.Felines are my favourite

Reading about 'reusable loo 'paper' reminded me that there are some good things about our overly-disposable age which I wouldn't economise on.. MEN LOOK AWAY NOW SOMETHING FEMALE FOLLOWS:
When I was in my teens (am now in 60s) I did a french exchange and my french friend had three older sisters, so once a week an old woman from the village camE in and washed, by hand, the strips of towelling all these girls used instead of STs. I had my disposable ones with me and I think they were a bit shocked, and didn't know what to do with them, but imagine if you'd been that old washerwoman. yeuch.....0 -
If I buy a whole broccoli head I use the florets in stir-fry or whatever and bung the thick bits of stalk in the freezer so when I've enough I can make soup.
And Mum always told us the stalks of the mushrooms were the best bits and we believed her! I even saved the stalks for last!I don't even bother tail them unless they were are rotten-looking and no great harm has befallen me as a consequence.

When I was a student my parents came down to do some shopping in the city. I met them in their hotel one day but they were running a bit late and hadn't had breakfast so I went to sit with them. The waitress got me a mug of coffee and since the rest was a self service buffet, I thought I might chance helping myself. I returned to visit them at breakfast time every day they were there! They had to pay for a family room even though it was just the two of them so I figured they might as well get their money's worth with a family breakfast!0

You can buy really pretty ones now too that can be bunged into the machine after a bit of a soak.

Ladies - you need a Mooncup. Bestest invention ever, far more economical and environmentally friendly than tampons/pads - and in use it's far less messy, no leaks!0
